Joe Biden’s senile debate performance has Democrats talking replacements
The bar was set incredibly low for President Joe Biden going into his CNN debate with former President Donald Trump.
He just needed to show up and seem reasonably coherent to calm nerves about his mental acuity.
But he delivered a performance so shocking that it immediately fueled speculation that the Democrats would try to replace him on the ticket.
Many Democrat pundits on CNN and MSNBC after the debate said that it was time for the party to go in a new direction.
The New York Times editorial board ran a piece calling on him to drop out the next morning.
A handful of names immediately popped up as potential Biden replacements.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has long been rumored to be a potential top option if Democrats pulled the plug on Biden for 2024.
And he’s acted like a Presidential candidate in all but name.
He’s crisscrossed the country and raised his national profile by picking fights with Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis said that Newsom was running a “shadow campaign” for President last year at their debate on Fox News.

Newsom has said he’s “all in” for Biden this election and has served as a top campaign surrogate for the President.
But Biden’s stumbles on the debate stage opened the door for him to try to position himself as a potential replacement.
Newsom is someone who clearly has designs on running for President but he had a surprising reaction to Biden’s disastrous debate performance.
“I would never turn my back on President Biden. Never turn my back on President Biden,” Newsom told reporters after the debate. “I don’t know a Democrat in my party that would do so. And especially after tonight, we have his back.”
“We run, not the 90-yard dash. We are all in,” Newsom continued. “We’re going to double down in the next few months. We’re going to win this election.”
The California Governor was asked about Biden’s debate performance.
“How about the substance?” Newsom asked. “I care about the substance. I care about the substance.”
Newsom was sticking by Biden but that didn’t quiet speculation about him becoming the Democrat nominee.
His odds of becoming President next year doubled on the election betting site PredictIt.
Former Republican crisis communications specialist Evan Siegfried told Business Insider that he thought that the maneuvering to replace Biden might be happening behind the scenes.
“There will be others within the Democratic party who will quietly ask whether or not Biden should drop out,” Siegfried said.
Seigfried added that Newsom’s campaign is “smart enough, or at least cold-hearted enough to think, ‘Okay, how can we get Newsom what he really wants — the presidency?”
Joe Biden’s debate performance is going to fuel more speculation about his political future.
