The Super Bowl can turn players into stars.
That could even apply to their wives.
And a Super Bowl champion’s wife made news with her eye-opening decision about the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has solidified his position as the current best player in the NFL.
In six seasons as a starter, Mahomes already has three Super Bowl rings in four appearances.
The Chiefs recently defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, but now Mahomes’ wife is the one making headlines.
Swimsuit magazine debut
Brittany Mahomes recently posed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Mahomes, a former soccer player, also promoted the Kansas City Current, a NWSL soccer club that she co-owns.
When asked about CPKC Stadium, the sole arena dedicated to women’s professional sports, Mahomes aid, “These women deserve to feel important and have their own facility so that they can perform at their best. . .I hope this sets the bar for women’s sports everywhere and other cities continue to build around women’s sports. Just like young boys get to dream of playing football at stadiums like Arrowhead, I want young girls everywhere to aspire to play at stadiums like CPKC.”
Mahomes played soccer at UT-Tyler, then played pro soccer in Iceland for a year.
She continued, “As a girl from Tyler, Texas, who only really knew sports, never in a million years did I think I’d be in [the SI Swimsuit Issue]. . .I’m just so grateful for this opportunity.”
Patrick and Brittany currently have a young daughter and a son.
She added, “People are going to love you or hate you, but finding your values and what makes you ‘you’ to be the best version of yourself is what really matters. . .Whether that’s health and wellness, being a great wife or mom, or career goals, being the best version of you is the most important thing you can be.”
With the Sports Illustrated spread, Mahomes seems primed to build her own profile independent of her husband.
Bad blood with Taylor Swift?
She also allegedly had a publicized falling out with pop princess Taylor Swift, who’s dating Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.
Mahomes and Swift were seen palling around and hanging out in the Chiefs’ VIP box.
But Kim Kardashian of all people might have put a strain on the friendship.
The Daily Mail reported that “first signs of trouble in pal paradise came with Mahomes’s appearance in an advertisement for Kim Kardashian’s underwear brand, Skims. Posing alongside Patrick and their two children in cozy Christmas pajamas, Brittany shared the promotional pictures to her personal Instagram last November, saying: ‘The holidays start with Skims.’”
Supposedly Mahomes was unaware of the long-running feud between Swift and Kardashian; Swift even included a Kardashian diss track on her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.
An insider told The Daily Mail that Mahomes’s actions “truly showed how loyal she is to her friends. And Brittany chose money over friendship, which says a lot. . .She has wanted to be relevant for so long and finally found her in. . .She has too many red flags and people are starting to see through her fake and bitchy persona. . .She is an opportunist who is clearly not a girl’s girl.”
Ouch.
At least one person in Swift’s orbit is not a fan of Mahomes.
Nevertheless, the Mahomeses are here to stay.
