George Soros spent $37 million getting Zohran Mamdani elected mayor of New York City.
Now 62,000 Americans – including hundreds of 9/11 families – are demanding Mamdani stay away from Ground Zero this September 11.
What Soros just paid a nonprofit to say about those grieving families makes clear who actually runs New York City.
George Soros Funded the Group That Called 9/11 Families Islamophobic
September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows issued a statement accusing the petition of targeting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani because he is the city's first Muslim mayor. The group called the campaign "Islamophobic" and said it was rooted in "anti-American accusations."
Soros has funneled $525,000 to that same nonprofit since 2016 through his Open Society Foundation grant-making network, records show.
The nonprofit is an affiliate of the Tides Center – a billion-dollar left-wing dark money operation that the National Legal and Policy Center has called "George Soros' Favorite Money Handler." Open Society Foundations contributed at least $17.2 million to the Tides Foundation between 2009 and 2022 alone.
This is the group now telling 9/11 widows they are bigots for not wanting Mamdani at the memorial.
Giovanni Galante launched the petition. His 29-year-old wife Grace was murdered in the North Tower.
"This has nothing to do with Islam or Mamdani being Muslim," Galante told the New York Post. "It has to do with who he associates with and who he represents."

Thousands of families who lost someone on September 11 refuse to stand beside this mayor – and the petition details every reason.
Mamdani campaigned alongside Hasan Piker, the far-left influencer who said America "deserved" the 9/11 attacks. Mamdani endorsed candidates who described the massacre of 2,977 innocent people as something "a couple of people did" amid "U.S. capitalism, racism, white supremacy, and Islamophobia."
At-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn hosted Mamdani during the campaign alongside Imam Siraj Wahhaj – an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing who once urged followers to prepare for jihad. Former FBI agents blasted Mamdani for refusing to condemn the cleric.
Mamdani appointed Ramzi Kassem as New York City's chief counsel. Kassem previously represented an al-Qaeda operative convicted in a tanker bombing plot.
He’s also refused to condemn the phrase "globalize the intifada" – a slogan that Jewish organizations across New York describe as a call to violence against Jews – and publicly blamed America for radicalizing Anwar al-Awlaki, the al-Qaeda propagandist directly linked to the 9/11 hijackers.
Charles G. Wolf lost his 40-year-old wife Katherine when the towers fell. He signed the petition and went directly at the Soros group attacking it.
"Anything that is backed by George Soros is illegitimate," Wolf said. "This is not the people speaking. This is George Soros and his billions of dollars trying to cause public strife in America."
How Soros Spent 37 Million Dollars to Put Mamdani in City Hall
Soros did not stumble into this fight by accident.
His Open Society Foundation network indirectly funneled a combined $37 million to the Working Families Party and at least nine left-wing groups whose endorsements and turnout operations helped Mamdani defeat Andrew Cuomo in the Democrat primary last year, the New York Post previously reported.
Soros bought the mayor's office, and the same network is now working to keep it.
Councilwoman Joann Ariola, who represents Belle Harbor – a neighborhood that lost dozens of residents on September 11 – went straight at Soros by name.
"The voices of 9/11 families should not be drowned out by billionaire-backed activists and those engulfed by their propaganda campaign," Ariola said. "The mayor needs to stay home and sit this one out."
Monica Iken-Murphy helped found the 9/11 Memorial and Museum after losing her husband Michael in the South Tower.
She signed the petition and said the ceremony belongs to the families and first responders who spent years building the memorial from grief – not to politicians who showed up afterward.
Mamdani's office issued a statement saying the mayor plans to attend regardless.
The Soros network ran the exact playbook it always runs when its investment gets threatened – call the opposition bigots, saturate sympathetic media with the Islamophobia accusation, and wait for grieving people to give up.
Twenty-five years of burying their dead taught these families one thing Soros never learned: they do not go quiet.
