IRS whistleblowers expose the political interference in the Hunter Biden probe
IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler worked the agency’s investigation into Hunter Biden for tax crimes.
They came forward as whistleblowers because of the disturbing political interference in the investigation from the top of the Biden Justice Department and IRS to help the President’s son.
Powerful forces were keeping President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden protected.
The whistleblowers were prevented from investigating anything that could lead back to Joe Biden like his son’s foreign lobbying on behalf of Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
Shapley and Ziegler were removed from their investigation into Biden after they came forward as whistleblowers – a violation of federal law – by Special Counsel David Weiss.
Weiss began the investigation into Hunter Biden in 2018 as the Delaware U.S. Attorney before Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed him Special Counsel.
The whistleblowers filed a complaint with the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) after they were pulled from the case.
OSC is tasked with protecting whistleblowers and investigating retaliation against federal employees.
Now House Republicans are opening an investigation into the OSC for retaliating against Shapley and Ziegler.
Federal government retaliates against Hunter Biden whistleblowers
Top House Republicans accused the OSC of a “smear campaign” Shapley and Ziegler.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) signed a letter to the OSC notifying the agency they’re investigating it.
“IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler have been wholly consistent in their testimony about misconduct and politicization in the Department of Justice’s criminal investigation of Hunter Biden,” the Republican leaders said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
“They did exactly what an honorable government employee should do: when they witnessed wrongdoing, they reported it responsibly and made legally protected disclosures,” the Republican leaders added.
The letter to OSC Acting Principal Deputy Special Counsel Karen Gorman, informed her that the House Republicans’ committees were investigating whether her office properly protected Shapley and Ziegler from whistleblower retaliation and whether the OSC itself retaliated against them.
Weiss filed a redacted document involving the whistleblowers in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
That led to a media campaign to discredit them by making it seem like they were also under federal investigation.
OSC requested that the information be redacted in court. However, it took months for the OSC to make it clear the whistleblowers weren’t under investigation according to the letter.
“The Committees are concerned both about OSC’s request and the nature of the subsequent redactions because they were interpreted by many to reflect negatively upon the Whistleblowers,” the letter continues. “Additionally, the Committees were surprised to learn that OSC did not take any meaningful action for nearly two months to correct this unnecessary impression.”
