Politicians make just about everything worse.
That is particularly true in the world of sports and entertainment.
Now, Joe Biden is ruining one star athlete’s career for an insane reason.
Novak Djokovic will have to wait until next year to attempt to catch Rafael Nadal for most majors titles in tennis.
After recently winning Wimbledon for the seventh time, Djokovic claimed his 21st major championship.
But he will not be able to compete in the U.S. Open—the final major of the year—because of his refusal to get the COVID vaccine.
The Daily Mail reported that Novak Djokovic will not be allowed to play in the US Open due to his refusal to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. The US Open organizers have said they would respect the government’s rules on non-citizens being fully vaccinated in order to enter the country, ruling out Djokovic. Djokovic’s anti-vaccine stance has been well-documented. In January 2022, he was deported from Australia prior to the Open in Melbourne over his refusal to get vaccinated. Following the drama Down Under, Djokovic, 35, said that he would not get the jab just to compete in tournaments.
Missing out on the Australian Open was particularly painful for Djokovic because it is his favorite major tournament and he has won the Australian Open nine times, more than any other player.
Djokovic’s absence also allowed for Nadal to win his second Australian Open, the tournament that had been the most elusive for him, and move ahead of Djokovic and Roger Federer in major titles after all three were tied at 20.
Prior to the announcement from the U.S. Open, tennis legend turned commentator John McEnroe was livid at the possibility of Djokovic not being able to play thanks to governmental mandates.
During the Wimbledon trophy presentation, McEnroe said, “These politicians are getting in the way too much…They did it in Australia. Let’s let the guy come in and play in the U.S. I mean, come on. This is ridiculous.”

Djokovic claimed that he was not a so-called anti-vaxxer, but explained, “I’ve always supported the freedom to choose what you put in your body.”
Djokovic transformed himself into an all-time great by changing his diet and fitness.
Early in his career, Djokovic developed a reputation for being a player who would retire early from matches.
Since getting rid of the food allergies that plagued him, he completely changed the arc of his career and his reputation in terms of mental toughness.
Now he’s being tested again.
Considering his journey, it makes complete sense why he would not want to put an experimental vaccine in his body.
At 35-years-old, and with only four major tournaments a year, Djokovic may not have many more chances thanks to Biden’s vaccine stance.
