George Soros funded the campaign that made Mary Moriarty Hennepin County's top prosecutor.
Now his DA just filed two felonies against James O'Keefe for exposing a hole in Minnesota's election system.
What O'Keefe found on camera inside those polling places is something Minnesota officials hoped nobody would ever see.
O'Keefe Walked Into a Minnesota Polling Place With a Dead Voter's Name and Exposed a Gap in Election Security
Investigative reporter James O'Keefe and conservative journalist Cam Higby walked into Minneapolis polling stations during the state's August primary wearing Islamic garb and using the names of real registered voters – including at least one who was already dead.
Some poll workers explained how the vouching process worked, and when it came time to sign the oath or accept a ballot, they walked away.
They filmed all of it.
When O'Keefe approached one station, he identified himself as William Pomeranz – a real registered Minnesota voter whose name he had no right to use.
Minnesota's vouching law lets a single registered voter vouch for up to eight other people's residency with no ID and no verification required.
O'Keefe's team proved the system works exactly like that.
Soros-backed Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced felony charges – unlawful voting and identity theft – against both O'Keefe and Higby.
Each charge carries up to five years in prison.
Moriarty claimed at her press conference the charges were unrelated to their political views – a claim she made while running the same office that gave teenage killers two-year deals.
The Trump DOJ was already investigating Minnesota's election system before O'Keefe set foot in a single polling place.
In January 2026, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon sent a letter to Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon demanding voter-registration records, telling Simon her office was "particularly concerned" about registrations and votes accepted through the vouching system.
O'Keefe didn't create the vulnerability – he filmed it.
The Soros DA Behind the Lawfare Against O'Keefe Let Teen Killers Walk and Charged Journalists With Identity Theft
According to the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, Moriarty's campaign received more than $500,000 from political groups funded by George Soros – and Open Society Foundation gave generous grants to the left-wing activist groups that put her in office.
Two teenagers murdered Zaria McKeever in 2023, and Moriarty's office handed them juvenile plea deals – two years in a youth correctional facility followed by probation until they turned 21.
McKeever's family called the deals a disgrace.
Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison called the outcomes disproportionate.
Governor Tim Walz used a rarely invoked statutory power to pull the case from Moriarty's office – a jurisdictional transfer without local consent that Minnesota hadn't seen in three decades.
Moriarty called the governor's move undemocratic.
She also charged an ICE agent who fatally shot a driver during anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis, and she told her prosecutors to factor defendants' race into plea negotiations.
Even swing-district Minnesota Democrats in the state legislature were running attack ads against her by 2024, and she announced she would not seek re-election in August 2025.
Now – as a lame-duck with nothing left to lose – she's filing felony charges against the journalists who exposed what Minnesota's election system lets anyone do.
Higby fired back: "I showed how Minnesota allows cheating in elections. Now they want to TAKE MY RIGHT TO VOTE AWAY. This is lawfare."
The DC Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a similar verdict against O'Keefe's former organization, Project Veritas, in 2026 – vindicating undercover journalism after years of litigation. That ruling didn't stop Moriarty.
ICE Arrested 13 Noncitizens for Minnesota Voter Fraud the Same Day Moriarty Charged O'Keefe
On the same day Moriarty filed her charges, ICE arrested 13 noncitizens accused of voter fraud ahead of the 2026 midterms – real fraud, real arrests, while Moriarty spent her final weeks in office chasing journalists.
Minnesota's vouching system has no meaningful verification mechanism – O'Keefe's team used a dead voter's identity, and the system never flagged it.
Poll workers flagged them only because their behavior seemed suspicious, not because anything in the system worked.
Without that, the system itself would have handed them ballots.
Soros's DA wants journalists in prison for five years for proving that – not for committing voter fraud, but for proving it was possible.
