Sundar Pichai sat before Congress in 2018 and promised under oath that Google does not suppress conservative news.
Now a six-month investigation has caught Google doing exactly that to one of the biggest stories in Washington.
What Google News kept from millions of Americans before the midterms just became impossible to deny.
Google News Bias Buried 257 Fraud Task Force Stories in a Six-Month Blackout
The Media Research Center spent six months logging every story Google News pushed in its morning feed – and the results expose what Google has spent eight years denying.
From February 25 through August 31, MRC researchers recorded the top 20 stories Google News promoted each morning, checking against 51 key wins the White House identified from JD Vance's Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.
Google News promoted zero of them.
MRC president David Bozell called out the platform directly.
"Between February and August, major news outlets published more than 257 stories on these multi-billion-dollar crackdowns," Bozell said.
"Yet not one appeared in Google News' top morning feed."
"A 257-to-0 blackout isn't a minor editorial quirk."
"Google owes its users an explanation for how a news platform with this much power managed to miss every single one."
Google's standard defense – that its algorithms favor authoritative, widely reported content, not partisan outlets – collapsed the moment MRC ran the numbers.
This was not a conservative media story Google could dismiss as fringe reporting.
This story ran at CNN, the New York Times, Al Jazeera, BBC, the Associated Press, NBC News, and NPR.
Forty-six of the 257 available stories came from Google's own top 10 most-cited sources – and Google buried every single one.
MRC researchers also tested Google's own Gemini alongside six other AI platforms and found not one flagged JD Vance's announcement that more than $135 billion in federal fraud had been identified for recovery.
Vance Fraud Task Force Wins Google News Refused to Promote
Vance's task force was not filling slow news weeks with routine announcements.
On June 23, the Department of Justice announced what FBI Director Kash Patel called historic – charges against 455 defendants, including 90 licensed medical professionals, tied to more than $6.5 billion in fraudulent healthcare claims spanning 45 states and territories and 56 federal districts.
The DOJ called it the largest healthcare fraud takedown in American history – 460 criminal charges, $127 million in assets seized, and 50 state Medicaid Fraud Control Units participating, the most in department history.
Two days before this MRC report dropped, Vance announced another direct hit on the fraud networks Biden's policies had built.
Vance's task force pulled 750,000 fraudulent Obamacare enrollments from the rolls and handed $2.2 billion back to the taxpayers who never should have lost it.
"We had a system in this country that rewarded brokers that made people rich for enrolling fake people in programs that are meant to ensure that our fellow citizens have health care," Vance said.
"This was a scandal."
The White House fraud tracker tells the full story: $230 billion in fraud uncovered, $56 billion in fraudulent payments stopped, hundreds of indictments and convictions secured since February.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison were referred to the DOJ's Fraud Division for criminal investigation in June over allegations of negligence and complicity in the state's Medicaid disaster.
None of it reached Google's top morning feed.

MRC previously caught Google News burying a Democrat Senate candidate's Nazi tattoo scandal in Maine for seven straight months – zero stories, until the New York Times broke it open.
ABC, CBS, and NBC refused to air a single mention of Vance's August announcement across six combined evening and morning programs.
This was not an accident or a technical error. Big Tech made a deliberate choice to hide those wins from voters heading into a critical midterm election – wins documented by the DOJ, the FBI, and the White House itself.
Google controls what millions of Americans see at 8:30 every morning, and for six straight months, every one of those Americans woke up and never learned a word of it.
Google's bias stopped being a debate a long time ago. What nobody has answered is how many more elections Big Tech gets to rig by controlling what voters are allowed to know.
