Twitter locked the New York Post's account in October 2020 to keep Americans from reading about Hunter Biden's laptop before the election.
That was Democrats with borrowed power over one platform they did not even own.
A bill moving through Congress right now would give them permanent control over every device in your home.
What the Parents Decide Act Actually Does to Every Phone and Computer You Own
The Parents Decide Act requires Apple, Google, and Microsoft to verify the age of every user before they can set up a new device.
Typing in your birthday does not count.
The bill mandates collection of every user's date of birth – and leaves it to the FTC to decide exactly how companies must verify that information is accurate, which means a government ID requirement is the most likely outcome.
No ID means no iPhone, no Android, no Windows laptop, and no internet.
Politicians in both parties are selling it as a way to keep kids safe online.
The bill's own official title in Congress is more honest than the press releases: "To require operating system providers to verify the age of any user of an operating system, and for other purposes."
For other purposes.
Those three words are doing a lot of work.
Before getting to what this bill really does, it is worth noting it does not even accomplish its stated goal.
Australia banned social media for children under 16 in December 2025.
Within weeks, 70% of those kids were still online.
A 14-year-old in New South Wales told reporters she simply used her mother's Face ID to log back into Snapchat and Instagram.
The child safety argument is a lie on its own terms.
And here is the voter ID hypocrisy Democrats are hoping you miss.
They have spent twenty years arguing that requiring an ID to vote is racist oppression that disenfranchises millions.
Now those same Democrats want Apple and Google to build a federal database of every American's verified identity – not to protect elections, but to protect children from TikTok.
They never believed ID requirements were discriminatory.
Apparently checking the college football score on your phone requires more identity verification than deciding who runs the country.
The Government ID Database HR 8250 Forces Apple and Google to Build
The security problem alone should kill this bill.
Between 2021 and 2025, driver's license data breaches increased 139%.
The FTC reported over 1.1 million identity theft cases in 2024 – and 2025 tracked 7.8% higher through three quarters.
Congress wants to build the largest collection of verified user identity data in American history at the exact moment that data is being stolen at record rates.
Then there is who actually writes the rules.
The most dangerous section of this bill is Section 2(c) and nobody is talking about it.
That section designates the FTC as the enforcement authority and directs the agency to define data protection standards, breach liability, access controls, and what content qualifies as "harmful" – all within 180 days of passage.
Congress does not write those rules.
Unelected regulators do – after the bill is already law.
Democrat Representative Josh Gottheimer's press release promises the verification data will be handled with privacy protections – but the bill itself leaves every question about how to the FTC.
You hand over your verified identity to Apple and Google today and trust that whoever runs Washington tomorrow will protect it.
How This Bill Gives the Government Power to Ban Conservatives From the Internet
Democrats controlled the flow of information in America for fifty years through the liberal media.
Three networks, a handful of newspapers, and a credentialed class of journalists who decided what you were allowed to know.
The internet broke that stranglehold and they have been trying to get it back ever since.
Democrats weaponized the IRS against Tea Party groups.
They pressured PayPal and banks to cut off conservatives.
Big Tech buried the Hunter Biden laptop story three weeks before a presidential election on their behalf.
Every lever of institutional power Democrats have touched, they have turned into a weapon against the Right.
The Parents Decide Act hands them the master key.
Once every American has handed a verified identity to Apple and Google, every person online is a known identity tied to a government database.
The FTC controls who stays online.
A President AOC, a President Bernie, anyone the Left produces in 2028 or 2032 inherits that infrastructure fully intact.
They do not need to pass a new law.
They just need to expand the definition of "harmful content" – which this bill already authorizes the FTC to define – and conservatives lose internet access the same way they lost Twitter, the same way they lost PayPal, the same way they get cut off from their bank accounts.
This time it is not one platform.
It is every device you own.
No Western democracy has ever mandated ID verification at the operating system level.
They named it the Parents Decide Act.
What it actually creates is the infrastructure to decide who gets to exist online.
