George Soros bought the Philadelphia DA's office – and his man just ordered prosecutors to lie to a federal judge.
Now the DOJ has subpoenaed the DA's office.
The man George Soros spent millions installing as Philadelphia's top prosecutor just became the target.
The Murder Case Behind the Obstruction of Justice Charges
Kenyatta Smith was shot and killed during a 2007 robbery in Philadelphia.
A jury convicted Dennis Johnson of second-degree murder in 2009, and a judge sentenced him to life in prison in November 2010.
But years later, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner's office reversed the DA's longstanding position and filed a petition claiming Johnson deserved to go free – arguing his trial lawyer had been incompetent.
When the petition unraveled, Krasner's office found someone else to blame.
That someone was Jaclyn Mason – a line prosecutor in Krasner's own office.
In her resignation letter, Mason wrote that deputy Matthew Stiegler had "used me to further his personal agenda of conceding in federal habeas cases regardless of the merits" – and that she had been "asked to fall on my sword."
Line prosecutors in the office told Krasner to refer the whole mess to the Pennsylvania attorney general.
Krasner said no – telling colleagues in testimony that the state AG's office was staffed with "Nazis" and that he needed to stay in the courtroom to protect the office.
He ordered four of his own prosecutors to go back through Mason's old case files, hunt for mistakes she had made, and file something with the court claiming her errors were "a pattern" – all to make the scapegoat story stick.
The Federal Judge Who Referred Krasner to the DOJ for Perjury
U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond – a George W. Bush appointee – kicked Krasner and Stiegler off the Johnson case in September after hearing weeks of testimony.
Diamond wrote that he had "reluctantly concluded that Philadelphia's highest law enforcement official and one of his top assistants may have violated the law."
Philadelphia's DA is now looking at perjury, obstruction of justice, false statements under oath, and conspiracy.
Diamond found that Krasner personally directed the scheme to frame Mason after a supervisor raised the idea.
Krasner declined to testify or submit an affidavit in his own defense when given the chance.
Instead he released a statement saying he "respectfully and vigorously" disagreed with the judge's findings and planned to appeal.
Now DOJ subpoenas have landed on his office – a direct escalation from Diamond's September referral.
The Eastern District of Pennsylvania moved quickly.
Dennis Johnson – the murderer Krasner's office tried to spring – remains in prison while the controversy his would-be liberators created plays out in federal court.
Soros's Progressive Prosecutor Network Meets Trump's DOJ
George Soros poured millions into Krasner's 2017 election, added $1.7 million through the Justice and Public Safety PAC for the 2021 re-election, and kept funding his third-term run.
Soros got exactly what he paid for.
Krasner replaced career prosecutors with defense attorneys, stopped prosecuting most drug cases, handed out sweetheart plea deals, and worked to spring a convicted murderer while blaming a junior staffer for the wreckage.
Philadelphia was not an isolated case.
Soros installed George Gascon in Los Angeles, Chesa Boudin in San Francisco, Kim Foxx in Chicago, and Kim Gardner in St. Louis.
Foxx bowed out under pressure, Gardner resigned, and Gascon lost his recall fight before losing re-election outright.
Of the 25 Soros-linked DAs who appeared on ballots in 2024, 12 were defeated or recalled, according to the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund.
Krasner survived that wave because Philadelphia Democrats protected him.
A Republican-controlled Pennsylvania House impeached him in 2022, and the Democrat-controlled Senate refused to hold a trial – letting the legislative session expire so he could walk free.
That move bought Krasner four years – but not immunity from the DOJ.
Soros's son Alex is still writing checks – his Democracy PAC pumped roughly $1.7 million into Soros-backed prosecutor races between March 2025 and April 2026, per Fox News – which tells you everything about how the Left views criminal justice: as a political investment, not a civic responsibility.
But buying prosecutors doesn't buy them out of perjury charges.
The only thing Krasner was protecting was himself – and a federal judge put that conclusion in writing across 40 pages.
George Soros spent millions buying the Philadelphia DA's office.
Trump's DOJ just sent the bill.
