Bill Gates spent years cultivating Jeffrey Epstein after his conviction – flying on his plane and pulling his own executives into the relationship.
Rand Paul just changed what that story means.
What he entered into the Senate record is the detail that makes the Epstein-Gates relationship a national security question.
Obama Handed Gates Nuclear-Level Government Clearance
Rand Paul entered a letter from the Department of Energy into the Congressional record during Dr. Anthony Fauci’s Senate hearing revealing that Bill Gates held DOE "Q security clearance" from 2014 to 2021.
Q is the highest security authorization the federal government grants to civilians – functionally equivalent to a Department of Defense Top Secret designation.
It applies to the most sensitive programs the government runs: nuclear weapons design, national laboratories, critical energy infrastructure, and classified scientific research.
Obama's administration granted it to Gates in 2014 because of his involvement with TerraPower, his private nuclear energy company.
TerraPower designs advanced nuclear reactors and works directly with the Department of Energy on next-generation nuclear technology – the kind of work that puts a private citizen inside classified government programs with no public accountability and no Senate confirmation.
It remained active for seven years.
The Blackmail Timeline Nobody Connected to His Security Clearance
Gates first met Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 – three years after Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution.
Gates flew on Epstein's private jet in March 2013 and met with him across New York, Germany, and Washington through 2014.
Epstein was simultaneously working to position himself as Gates's indispensable partner – pitching a multibillion-dollar charitable fund to JPMorgan in which Gates would be the centerpiece, and telling bank executives he was Gates's closest adviser.
Obama granted Gates his Top Secret nuclear clearance in 2014 – the same year Gates told the House Oversight Committee his relationship with Epstein was at its most extensive.
During that period, Epstein learned of Gates's extramarital affairs and used that knowledge to blackmail Gates back into association with him.
"Epstein was working to use information about my infidelities — in addition to many lies that he layered on top — to pressure me to re-engage with him," Gates told the House Oversight Committee in June.
A man being actively blackmailed by a convicted sex offender with possible ties to foreign intelligence held Top Secret access to America's nuclear weapons infrastructure.
Gates Admitted the Blackmail and the Russian Nuclear Physicist Under Oath
Gates confirmed to congressional investigators that one of his affairs – the affairs Epstein used as leverage – was with a Russian nuclear physicist he met "through business activities."
Epstein knew about that relationship and was blackmailing Gates with it.
Gates told investigators he believes Epstein learned about the affairs through Boris Nikolic – Gates's chief science adviser, who was so embedded in Epstein's network that Epstein named him a successor executor in his will.
The former Microsoft CEO has never been asked to explain what, if anything, the DOE knew about his personal vulnerabilities when they granted and maintained that clearance.
And he has never been asked whether the clearance was reviewed after Epstein's 2019 arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.
The clearance ran until 2021.
Epstein died in federal custody in 2019.
Rand Paul Just Connected the Blackmail to a National Security Risk
The record now shows a private citizen with no elected office held nuclear-level government access while a convicted sex offender was actively blackmailing him – blackmail that included a relationship with a Russian national in the nuclear field.
A standard security clearance process requires disclosure of foreign contacts, personal vulnerabilities, and anything that could make a clearance holder susceptible to coercion.
Having a clearance holder with undisclosed foreign contacts and an active blackmail operation against him is exactly the kind of vulnerability the adjudication process exists to catch.
Whether any of that was disclosed – and whether it was ever reviewed – is now a question attached to an official Senate document.
Gates has not commented.
That document does not go away.
