The Weather Underground bombed the Pentagon, the Capitol, and the State Department – then collapsed under the weight of its own incompetence.
The Left never stopped wanting that revolution – they just needed a better organization to pull it off.
What those organizers admitted on camera is why the FBI needs to open a file today.
Inside the DSA Red Rabbits: A Paramilitary Network Built for National Uprising
The Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States – more than 100,000 members, 250 chapters, and a sitting mayor in New York City.
The DSA launched what it calls the Red Rabbits Security Commission at its 2025 national convention.
Its name was chosen to sound harmless – a nod to the novel Watership Down, where outnumbered rabbits fight for survival.
Their earlier name idea? "National Vigilance Committee." They dropped it because members worried it sounded too much like an endorsement of vigilantism.
The name change tells you exactly who these people are.
According to the commission's own authorizing resolution, the Red Rabbits are preparing for a "national uprising against federal agents and police brutality."
That's not a conservative interpretation. That's their stated directive – in writing.
In practice, the training includes armed and unarmed self-defense, blocking intersections, chemical exposure training where participants practice getting pepper-sprayed, martial arts sparring, wound-packing, radio communications, and fighting "fascists" with umbrellas.
Organizers from Minnesota, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Tucson, Austin, and Portland just compared notes at the group's first major public panel – and investigative analyst Stu Smith at City Journal was watching.
DSA Red Rabbits Leader Praised Revolutionary Violence and the Group Kept Him Anyway
The DSA's own National Political Committee tried to remove the Maoist organizer running the Red Rabbits commission – because his public comments included praise for revolutionary violence.
They voted to keep him anyway.
That's the man setting the doctrine for a nationwide paramilitary network.
The allies he brought in make it worse.
Tucson's Red Rabbits work directly with the Party for Socialism and Liberation – a would-be revolutionary outfit with documented ties to the Communist Party of China.
Portland DSA runs its know-your-rights trainings with the National Lawyers Guild, a left-wing legal organization with historic Soviet ties.
Philadelphia's chapter started with abortion clinic defense, then expanded into Palestinian solidarity operations – eventually taking command of the "direct action contingent" inside the Philly Palestine Coalition.
In New Jersey, the DSA's working group has become the go-to security apparatus for Palestinian affinity groups and immigrant advocacy organizations operating across the state.
These aren't community service projects. This is a movement building the infrastructure for organized resistance against American law enforcement – with foreign-connected allies embedded throughout.
The DSA Knows Its Red Rabbits Militia Threatens Their Tax-Exempt Status
The Red Rabbits organizers put their legal strategy on camera too.
They know that training a paramilitary security force for a "national uprising" doesn't qualify as the "social welfare" activity required of a tax-exempt 501(c)(4) organization.
The DSA's Red Rabbits commission leader Cliff Connolly – a National Political Committee member – made clear during the panel that the group was working "very, very closely" with DSA staff to ensure upcoming trainings had "no question marks or gray area."
The Tucson chapter stressed that its trainings needed to "match the reality of what a 501(c)(4) can do."
Oklahoma City's Queer Fight Club floated a workaround – structuring their operation to be "DSA-sponsored" but not entirely "DSA-operated," using what they described as a separate 501(c) arrangement to manage "liability and tax purposes" so legal problems wouldn't "come back to the DSA."
They're not hiding what they're doing. They're just trying to structure it so they don't lose their tax-exempt status while they do it.
The IRS has every reason to look at this. Blocking intersections with bicycles, escape-hold training, umbrella phalanxes against "fascists," and "takedowns on intersections" aren't social welfare activities – they're preparation for street combat.
America Has Seen This Movie Before
The Weather Underground started exactly like this.
Students for a Democratic Society, campus organizing, rhetoric about "fascism," escalating confrontation with law enforcement – then bombings of the Capitol, the Pentagon, and the State Department.
The 2020 riots cost America an estimated $2 billion in damages while Democrat mayors ordered police to stand down.
Now the DSA has built something the Weather Underground never had – a structured, nationally coordinated security apparatus with chapters in at least six major cities, legal cover consultants, China-connected allies, and a Maoist at the helm who survived a removal effort by his own governing board.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sits in Congress after the DSA got her elected. Zohran Mamdani – a card-carrying DSA member – is the Mayor of New York City, the largest city in America.
The organization behind that militia just put one of its own in charge of eight million people.
Republicans in Congress and federal law enforcement have watched DSA grow its influence for years without serious scrutiny.
The Red Rabbits just showed them what that neglect produced.
A national militia, organized in public, preparing for an uprising against the federal agents who protect this country – and they put it on camera themselves.
