The New York Times spent years telling America that conservatives were the threat to democracy.
That paper just sent one of its reporters onto Bill Maher's show to talk about the Democrat Party's socialist wing.
What Jeremy Peters said is something every Democrat running for office in November is praying voters never hear.
Jeremy Peters Admits DSA Goal Is to Destroy the Constitutional System
On HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, New York Times national correspondent Jeremy Peters laid out exactly who the Democratic Socialists of America are – and what they actually want.
Their stated goal, Peters told Maher, is to "take out the entire constitutional system that the Democratic Party is allowed to participate in governance."
Maher didn't push back.
He went further.
"And they like communism," Maher said. "I proved it here a couple of weeks ago just by quoting them. They use the word a lot. They're not actually trying to hide it, although if you ask them they will deny it."
DSA Platform Calls for Abolishing the Senate, Supreme Court and the Presidency
The DSA's "Workers Deserve More" platform for 2025–2026 isn't a fringe document someone dug out of a basement.
It sits on the organization's official website, adopted formally by its National Political Committee.
It calls for abolishing the U.S. Senate, the Electoral College, the presidency as currently constituted, and the Supreme Court as an independent branch.
The replacement: a single all-powerful Congress that would hand-pick and control both the president and the courts.
Gone – the entire system of checks and balances that has governed this country for 235 years.
The platform also calls for abolishing ICE, eliminating all immigration enforcement, amnesty for all illegal aliens, elimination of cash bail, and abolishing prisons.
DSA Co-Chair Megan Romer – one of the organization's top elected leaders – went on a podcast to defend it and couldn't explain how any of it would actually work.
Peters told Maher that DSA candidates have repeatedly "struggled to articulate how they don't subscribe to communism, whether or not they really believe in Marxism, and basic facts about how their ideology would help them govern the United States."
The DSA is winning.
Since Zohran Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo to become mayor of New York City in 2025, DSA-endorsed candidates have knocked off sitting members of Congress across the country.
Melat Kiros ousted 30-year Colorado veteran Diana DeGette in Denver.
Darializa Avila-Chevalier knocked out Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York.
Donavan McKinney defeated a sitting Michigan congressman.
On August 18, Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon defeated Alexander Vindman – the man Democrats spent millions making into a national hero over this role in the first impeachment hoax against Trump – in the Florida Senate primary, despite being outspent $16 million to $975,000.
The Brookings Institution tracked 282 DSA-endorsed candidates through mid-August and found the movement had won 123 primary races.
Every one of those winners is now on the November ballot running as a Democrat – under a party banner that the DSA's platform says it intends to destroy.
The House Republican campaign arm said it after the Colorado wins: "The socialist takeover of the Democrat Party is no longer confined to deep-blue strongholds. The radicals are taking over battleground districts."
The Democrat Party spent the last decade pretending the DSA was a curiosity – a few college kids with Bernie stickers who would grow out of it.
AOC got a platform. Ilhan Omar shaped the foreign policy debate. Democrats cheered Mamdani's New York City win as "grassroots energy."
Sen. Deb Fischer called it a direct assault on America's constitutional framework – and the DSA's own platform proves her right.
"Complete victory," the document says, will require building a new society from the ground up.
Healthcare talking points don't require a new constitution. Living wage proposals don't require abolishing the Supreme Court.
What the DSA is selling is a revolution – and it's on the November ballot dressed in a Democrat Party label, counting on voters to miss the difference until it's too late.
