The FBI called the Hunter Biden laptop Russian disinformation while its own informants were reporting Biden corruption for years.
Now declassified documents expose the operation behind the cover-up – and it ran straight through FBI headquarters.
The agents running that operation did something to three informant files that crosses into criminal territory.
Barr, Pompeo, Grassley and Jordan Branded Russian Disinformation Conduits
The White House Government Transparency Task Force released the documents this week, revealing a secret FBI counterintelligence operation codenamed "Round River" – launched in December 2019, right as House Democrats were impeaching Donald Trump over his Ukraine phone call.
FBI headquarters analysts quietly swept up every derogatory informant report ever filed on Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Burisma – and declared it all Russian disinformation.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirmed it: the Round River team "did not corroborate any of the allegations of the 'Ukraine Narrative.'"
They weren't interested in truth. The operation existed to kill the story.
The FBI had 14 confidential informants filing derogatory reports on the Bidens – some dating back to 2012.
One reported in 2015 that a Russian intelligence officer described Burisma's relationship with Hunter Biden as "a long-term operation" – a penetration of the Biden family by a foreign government. Another reported that CIA officers intervened in Ukraine to shield Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky from prosecution. The third had direct conversations with Hunter Biden about Burisma corruption.
None of it mattered to the Round River analysts. Every informant report went into a prohibited-access file where no other FBI agent could reach it.
The U.S. attorney that then Attorney Bill Barr had dispatched to Pittsburgh to vet Biden-Ukraine corruption allegations knew nothing about the operation running parallel to his own probe. Round River buried the intelligence in restricted files, sealed away from every field office, investigator, and prosecutor who would have acted on it.
Then came the part that turns cover-up into crime.
The Round River team went into the permanent files of three veteran informants and rewrote their histories. Analysts created new intelligence assessments and inserted them retroactively – branding years of legitimate reporting as Russian disinformation.
That is not counterintelligence. That is evidence tampering.

The Round River spreadsheet divides American politics into two neat columns. Democrats – Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, George Soros – appear as "targets" of Russian disinformation: victims to be shielded.
Conservatives appear as "conduits" – Attorney General Bill Barr, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Senators Chuck Grassley, Ron Johnson, and Lindsey Graham, Devin Nunes, Jim Jordan, and Fox News. Every Republican who investigated Biden corruption was formally designated a vehicle for Russian disinformation.
Grassley and Johnson suspected for years the FBI weaponized a defensive briefing to derail their Burisma probe. The documents confirm it.
Round River matched the Biden campaign's talking points beat for beat – corruption allegations became conspiracy theories and whistleblowers became Russian assets. The FBI wasn't fighting Russian disinformation. It was providing bureaucratic cover for the Democrat presidential candidate.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed this week he shut down the Foreign Influence Task Force and opened a criminal investigation into its conduct. In his letter to the Transparency Task Force, Patel wrote the Bureau is investigating whether FITF analysts used Round River to "undermine or influence ongoing investigations" by suppressing Biden-specific intelligence.
Patel flagged one more number: Round River identified at least 53 confidential informants as blown – their identities known to hostile foreign intelligence, their loyalties in question. Real people. Americans who trusted the FBI with their lives.
The FBI spent four years chasing Donald Trump on Russia collusion evidence too thin for Robert Mueller to prosecute. Those same years, Round River buried real evidence and altered real files – branding Americans as Russian assets for asking questions about Joe Biden.
Grassley saw the pattern years ago. The FBI wasn't fighting foreign influence – it was the foreign influence.
