Jack Smith sent FBI agents to raid Donald Trump's home over classified documents.
Now the men who built that case have a classified documents problem of their own.
And a watchdog just put six of their names in front of the one person who can strip what they need to keep practicing law.
Watchdog Demands Security Clearance Revocation for Six Jack Smith Prosecutors
Security clearances are what allow lawyers and investigators to keep working government cases after they leave office.
Lose one, and that career path is effectively over.
The Center to Advance Security in America sent a formal letter this week to Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte demanding an immediate review of the clearances held by six of Jack Smith's former prosecutors: Molly Gaston, Thomas Windom, Carli Rodriguez-Feo, Julie Edelstein, William O'Neil, and Stephanie Van Buskirk.
CASA Director James Fitzpatrick was direct in his statement.
"Smith's team was no stranger to the protocols and procedures for handling classified information," Fitzpatrick said.
"This is especially true in light of their targeted prosecution of President Trump for alleged mishandling of classified information – an offense they appear far more guilty of than President Trump."
The request to Pulte cites Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley's July 8 document release, which revealed internal Justice Department messages showing Smith's team granted classified access to at least one person whose authorization was never confirmed.
Jack Smith Team Left Classified Facility Unsecured While Building Case Against Trump
The Grassley documents revealed the security failures inside Smith's operation.
Someone on the team received access to classified materials without the required clearance check.
A separate batch of classified materials moved through a DOJ sensitive compartmented information facility with no record of where they went.
A Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility accessible to Smith's personnel was left unsecured overnight – and possibly longer.
That last failure triggered what internal messages described as a formal security "violation and incident."
Van Buskirk – identified in the messages as the individual who opened the SCIF "the day before" – is among the six prosecutors CASA has now put in Pulte's crosshairs.
Grassley's summary was blunt: "Talk about the pot calling the kettle black."
"While Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden escaped accountability for mishandling highly classified information, Jack Smith and the Biden DOJ set out to paint President Trump as a felon and ruin him politically," Grassley wrote.
Jim Jordan Sends Jack Smith a Criminal Referral for Lying to Congress Under Oath
The clearance push lands on top of a criminal referral Jim Jordan sent to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.
Jordan's letter accused Smith of making "willfully and intentionally false statements of material fact" during his December 2025 deposition before the House Judiciary Committee.
At the center of Jordan's referral: Smith testified his team only sought "toll records" from members of Congress – basic call logs showing which numbers contacted which.
Grassley then released documents confirming Smith's team pulled the actual text message contents from 44 sitting and former members of Congress – Republicans and Democrats alike.
"His conduct can only be understood as an effort to thwart the Committee's inquiry by intentionally making false statements and representations before Congress," Jordan wrote to Blanche.
Smith's attorneys fired back Wednesday night, calling the referral "meritless."
Jordan wasn't buying it.

His prosecutors left classified facilities wide open and read the private texts of 44 members of Congress – then Smith sat under oath and let the committee believe otherwise.
Blanche holds the criminal referral. Pulte holds the clearance request. The question is whether any of it finally costs someone something.
