Two financial juggernauts set a jaw-dropping precedent because of the war in Ukraine

Ukraine has turned into a calamity after the Russian invasion.

Thousands are dying and suffering, innocent people away from the conflict are beginning to feel the squeeze.

And two financial juggernauts set a jaw-dropping precedent because of the war in Ukraine.

Truth is becoming stranger than fiction.

A 2016 episode of the dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror presented the idea of a social credit system.

Not long after, China implemented a similar system, and it’s spreading to the rest of the world.

Now, credit card companies Visa and Mastercard are essentially globalizing that concept with a new move.

Visa and Mastercard pulled services from everyone who uses the cards inside of Russia, and everyone outside the country who was issued a card while living in Russia.

Reuters reported that, “U.S. payments firms Visa Inc and Mastercard Inc on Saturday said they were suspending operations in Russia over the invasion of Ukraine, and that they would work with clients and partners to cease all transactions there. Within days, all transactions initiated with Visa cards issued in Russia will no longer work outside of the country and any Visa cards issued outside of Russia will no longer work within the country,” the company said.

That is a jaw-dropping escalation.

In effect, this is a globalist financial institution using Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as the perfect excuse to further ingrain a Chinese-style social credit system with the Western world.

It shows that these companies are willing to punish innocent people in order to achieve political goals.

This is a bone-chilling development that could make people think twice about using products from Visa and Mastercard.

Al Kelly, Visa’s chief executive officer, said in a statement, “We are compelled to act following Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and the unacceptable events that we have witnessed.”

As “compelled” as Visa might feel, it’s a shocking development to punish innocent people who happen to be Russian.

While this maneuver may seem justified because of Putin’s horrific actions, it is quite easy to see how this sets a dangerous precedent.

For example, having the “wrong” politics could be a reason for these payment processors to deny services.

In fact, it’s already happened in the United States and Canada.

Many right-wingers have had their accounts closed for political reasons, and Robert Spencer, director of the anti-terrorist site Jihad Watch, had a fundraiser shut down by Mastercard, who threatened to pull services from the crowdfunding site.

And in Canada, the Trucker Convoy had accounts seized and crowdfunding donations blocked.

The establishment Left is quietly priming America for a social credit system that could come much faster than anyone thought.
