Trump Ordered the DOJ to Investigate Democrats Who Threatened to Impeach Pete Hegseth and Todd Blanche

Democrats won the House and Senate Tuesday and started announcing their revenge plans before the results were even certified.

Trump watched the threats roll out publicly for 48 hours.

What he ordered Saturday has the Democrats who just won a majority suddenly looking at their own legal exposure.

Democrats Called for Pete Hegseth and Todd Blanche Impeachment Before the Votes Were Certified

Democrats spent the campaign talking about inflation, grocery prices, and the cost of living.

That message lasted about 48 hours past Election Night.

By Thursday morning, the same party that had run on kitchen-table issues was announcing impeachment targets — Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Todd Blanche, and other senior Trump officials who will face a hostile Congress when Democrats take power in January.

Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia went on SiriusXM within 72 hours of Election Day and declared that Attorney General Todd Blanche needed to be "impeached and convicted and removed from office."

He did not name a specific crime.

Rep. Deborah Ross of North Carolina appeared on the same show minutes later and said Democrats should "start with Hegseth."

Incoming Speaker Hakeem Jeffries had already promised voters at a campaign stop: "One of the first things we're going to do in the majority, we're going to run Pete Hegseth out of town."

Democrats also signaled plans to investigate major Republican donors and corporations – a list that could include contributors to the White House ballroom renovation.

Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin had already announced the same strategy from a University of Chicago podium four weeks earlier.

She told a room full of students she wanted to pursue "signature cases" against Trump's "enablers" – and that she wanted young people to fear legal consequences before even considering a job in the Trump administration.

"I want that deterrence message sent," she said.

Utah Sen. Mike Lee called it "absolutely disgraceful to threaten young Americans for participating in politics and serving their country."

Conservative students in the audience said they left the event feeling warned – that supporting the Trump administration would invite retaliation from the next Democratic majority.

Law professor Jonathan Turley posted on X that Slotkin had "said the quiet part out loud."

Democrats weren't planning oversight, they were planning a purge.

Trump Called It Democrat Extortion and Ordered a Federal Criminal Investigation

Trump responded Saturday on Truth Social and didn't soften a word.

"The Democrats are going around threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States, and others, with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so," he wrote.

He called them "EXTORTIONISTS" and said they should be imprisoned.

Then he ordered the DOJ to open a criminal investigation into the threats, calling their actions a "criminal act."

He named Slotkin directly – accusing her of threatening to go after young people who "believe in Republican Values" – and accused Democrats of threatening Republican donors with imprisonment because of their political views.

For two years, Democrats accused Trump of using the DOJ as a political weapon and ran on that message in every competitive district in the country.

They won.

That majority comes with subpoena power – the ability to haul cabinet officials before cameras, demand documents, and run public hearings on everything Trump has done since January 2025.

And within 72 hours they announced the exact same strategy – openly in radio interviews – targeting the Attorney General, the Secretary of Defense, major donors, and college students who might someday work for a Republican administration.

Every congressman who demanded Blanche's removal without naming a crime, every senator who promised to make working for Trump radioactive, every threat against a Republican donor – all of it is on the record, and all of it is now part of a federal investigation.

Trump just handed the DOJ their own words.

Trump didn't schedule a press conference or file a formal complaint – he wrote one Truth Social post, called them extortionists, and ordered a federal criminal investigation before lunch on a Saturday.
