Jim Jordan’s pursuit to hold Joe Biden officials accountable just took a new turn
Following the outbreak of the pandemic, government officials seized an incredible amount of power.
For many Americans, the most concerning power grab involved the Joe Biden administration’s alleged coordination with social media companies to silence Americans online for posting so-called “misinformation.” Such alleged coordination led to the Murthy v Missouri case, which has made it all the way up to the Supreme Court.
As Supreme Court Justices discuss whether the federal government can coordinate with social media companies to circumvent the First Amendment, Members of Congress continue to examine further accusations of federal censorship.
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) grilled Joe Biden’s Deputy Campaign Manager and former Assistant to the President and Director of Digital Strategy, Rob Flaherty, in a House hearing last week.
In the hearing, Jordan focused on an email sent from Flaherty to Facebook, where Flaherty allegedly said, “My bias is to kick people off the platform.”
Jordan addressed this email, telling Flaherty, “The White House is telling a social media platform — one of the biggest ones in the world — you should kick people off your platform if they’re saying things we don’t like.”
Flaherty responded, “There were no threats, and there were no consequences.”
Andy Slavitt, the Biden administration’s head of COVID-19 response also attended the hearing, jumping to Flaherty’s defense.
Slavitt defended Flaherty, saying, “We had no intention in coercing any social media companies into taking any action.”
He added, “We never received any indication that our dialogue ever was interpreted that way. I want to be clear that they made their own decisions.”
Congressional Democrats also rushed to defend these Biden officials, including Delegate Stacey Plaskett of the Virgin Islands.
Plaskett went as far as to claim that Jordan scheduled last Wednesday’s hearing with a deliberate attempt to influence the ongoing Murthy v Missouri case.
On Wednesday, Plaskett charged, “Republicans are holding this hearing today in a last-ditch effort to influence the Supreme Court opinion in the case of Murthy v Missouri.”
Member of Congress Dan Goldman (D-NY) also chimed in, saying, “They want to chill the government from actually interacting with private companies as we come upon an election in November of 2024.”
“If that can’t happen, then Donald Trump and these Republicans benefit because Russia will help them. That is why we are here, and that is why this is bogus,” the flustered New York lawmaker added.
The Murthy v Missouri case could drastically change how the federal government operates
If the Supreme Court sides with Missouri, in Murthy v. Missouri then it could completely change how the Biden administration operates.
According to Jim Jordan and his fellow congressional investigators, the Biden administration has relied on Big Tech companies to silence his political enemies.
Without this tactic, Joe Biden and his team will have a much harder time refuting the millions of Americans who do not like him or agree with him.
