Steve Scalise Sent GOP Chairs a Secret Playbook Before Democrats Could Come for Trump

Robert Garcia had two words for the Trump administration when Democrats won the House, lawyer up.

Steve Scalise immediately sent GOP committee chairs a letter with instructions to prepare for what comes next.

What Scalise has quietly built could stop the entire Democrat investigation machine before it starts.

Robert Garcia Just Named Trump as House Oversight Committee Target Number One

Robert Garcia – the incoming House Oversight Committee chairman – didn't waste a minute after Democrats swept the House in Tuesday's midterms, publishing a hit list that includes Trump family corruption, the Jeffrey Epstein files, DHS and ICE operations, and a broader sweep of what he calls "corporate corruption."

He told Fox News Digital that subpoenas hit on "day one" – including one aimed directly at Attorney General Todd Blanche.

"Lawyer up" wasn't just a brief statement – it was a declaration of war against every Trump official, ally, and donor Garcia can reach with a gavel.

Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee moved straight to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin within hours of the results.

House Foreign Affairs Democrats announced plans to investigate Trump's international dealings – including the Iran war.

Democrats on the Judiciary Committee aren't hiding their intentions either – they told Fox News Digital that "the cover-up expires with the Republican majority."

They spent months before the election sending document requests to Trump-linked companies and financial firms – building cases before they even had subpoena power.

The goal, in Garcia's own words, is to prove that "the Trump family has turned the entire executive branch into a money-making enterprise."

There is even talk of a lame-duck impeachment vote against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth before Republicans lose the gavel in January – Democrats want him in front of a committee to answer for the Iran war and what it cost the American taxpayer.

Scalise saw all of this coming and said so in his letter, warning that Democrats "will weaponize every single gavel to appease their radical base."

The letter landed one day after Scalise launched his bid for House minority leader – a race he is running against Jim Jordan. Defending Trump from a Democrat-controlled House isn't just principle. It's an audition.

The Executive Privilege Shield Trump Built Before Democrats Got the Gavel

Trump's DOJ didn't wait for election night.

In August, the Office of Legal Counsel issued an executive privilege memo that pushes presidential protection far beyond anything Democrats anticipated.

The memo covers Trump's communications with advisers who don't even hold government positions – as long as those conversations relate to official presidential duties.

Every donor, outside adviser, and political ally Trump consulted on official business is shielded from a Democrat subpoena – and Democrats can't haul them in without going through a 6-3 Supreme Court that has ruled consistently for broader presidential power.

Democrats saw the memo coming and tried to kill it before it took effect – Senate Democrats sent a formal warning to the White House in August, demanding the administration not use the opinion to "instruct private individuals to defy lawful congressional subpoenas."

The White House told them to pound sand.

The memo now stands as a legal wall between Democratic subpoenas and the people Democrats most want to drag into committee rooms.

Scalise built his entire playbook around that reality, directing committee chairs to study recent Supreme Court rulings and the DOJ privilege memo as the front line of defense against whatever Garcia throws at them.

Scalise had the letter ready within 48 hours of the results – not a reaction, a rollout.

Democrats celebrated Tuesday night like the investigations were already over.

They're walking into a two-year legal war against a White House that has had the defenses in place since August.

Democrats ran this same play after the 2018 midterm sweep – and produced nothing but executive privilege fights, contempt referrals that went nowhere, and impeachment theater that energized Trump's base heading into 2020.

Trump took notes.

He prepared the DOJ, locked down executive privilege, and stacked the courts with judges who read presidential authority broadly.

Democrats spent 2019 showing Trump every gap in his defenses – he closed every one of them, and now they want to run it back.
