Tuesday night Democrats won the Congress they spent two years promising would destroy Elon Musk.

Democrats Launch DOGE Investigation the Moment They Win Congress
Rep. Robert Garcia takes the House Oversight Committee chairmanship in January, and his message to executives he accused of colluding with the Trump administration was direct: "You should lawyer up."
Rep. Jamie Raskin chairs the House Judiciary Committee starting in the same month, and he was no subtler: "We will not hesitate to go after the private corporations that are collaborating in all of the lawlessness with Donald Trump."
That is two of the most powerful investigative committees in Congress, controlled by two men who spent two years publicly naming Elon Musk as their target.
Democrats flipped more than 40 Republican House seats Tuesday and won both chambers – a majority that could reach 260 seats that gives Garcia and Raskin the gavels to match their rhetoric.
Musk spent roughly half a billion dollars opposing Democrats in this election cycle and lost anyway.
Garcia told reporters that his committee's first priority is what he calls the "Trump crime family" – but his public record makes clear that Musk, specifically for running DOGE, is the man Garcia wants in a hearing room.
Garcia called the scope of the alleged corruption "outrageous" and made plain that investigations, not legislation, are where his committee intends to spend its time.
DOGE identified more than $160 billion in federal spending cuts and eliminated entire layers of bureaucracy Democrats spent decades building.
Before winning the majority, Garcia and fellow Democrats had already sent letters demanding ExxonMobil, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips explain their role in the White House's approach to Venezuelan oil – a dry run for what Garcia plans the moment he has a gavel in hand.
Megyn Kelly Asks What Crime Elon Musk Committed and Gets Silence
Megyn Kelly had one question for Democrats: what crime did Elon Musk actually commit?
She ran through his record: a brain-computer interface company working to restore movement in paralyzed patients, the electric vehicle company Democrats spent a decade demanding America build, and the satellite network keeping Ukraine online during wartime – the last one also being the only American system capable of launching astronauts to the International Space Station.
"He's literally working on curing paralysis and blindness," Kelly said, and no Democrat has yet explained what any of that has to do with their investigation.
Kelly answered for them: "They're just so angry that he headed up DOGE and wanted to get rid of a couple of government agencies. They now want to throw him in jail." She called it "banana republic stuff."
Kelly waved off the broader threats as applause lines for the Democratic base – "little liver snaps they're distributing out to their Democratic fans" – while drawing one line.
If there was a bribe for a pardon, she said, investigate it. Political revenge for cutting the federal bureaucracy does not warrant a subpoena.
Robert Reich Demands Democrats Nationalize SpaceX to Punish Elon Musk
Robert Reich made the Democratic endgame explicit before the votes were even counted.
The former Labor Secretary called publicly for Democrats to "defund" Musk and nationalize SpaceX, arguing the federal government should seize a private company from its founder because he backed the wrong party. That is the stuff of banana republics.
Trump vowed to preemptively pardon Musk and anyone else Garcia and Raskin come after, which is the right call – because congressional subpoena power requires no evidentiary threshold, no evidence standard, nothing except a majority vote and a willing committee chairman.
Garcia and Raskin now have both, and neither has an answer to the question Megyn Kelly asked on Friday.
They are not building a legal case – they are using the machinery of the United States Congress to punish the man who proved Washington's bureaucracy could be cut, and the message to every American CEO watching is that this is what happens if you try it again.
