Now she’s escalating her war on the Trump administration.

James launches misconduct probe against local law enforcement
While President Trump works to secure America’s border and deport dangerous criminals, New York’s radical Attorney General Letitia James is actively sabotaging those efforts.
James has launched a sweeping misconduct investigation targeting local law enforcement agencies that dare to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
Her office sent a letter to Oswego County Sheriff Don Hilton demanding documents about any cooperation between local cops and federal agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection, and Homeland Security.
The letter cited state law on official misconduct and demanded information about police training on immigration enforcement and documentation of all traffic stops.
"Attorney General is conducting an investigation pursuant to New York Executive Law § 75(3) and has reasonable cause to believe that the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has information relevant to that investigation," deputy bureau chief Lillian Marquez wrote in the June 11 letter.
This is the same Letitia James who spent years weaponizing her office to go after Trump with frivolous civil lawsuits.
Now she’s targeting sheriffs who are simply doing their job to protect their communities from dangerous illegal aliens.
James demands sheriffs ignore federal immigration law
The Attorney General’s office is demanding that Sheriff Hilton turn over any documents about ICE detainer requests and the detection or detention of people who allegedly violated immigration law.
James also wants all communications between sheriff’s office members and Homeland Security agencies during traffic stops.
This comes as New York operates under an executive order signed by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2017 that restricts law enforcement from helping investigate, arrest, or deport illegal immigrants.
The order states that "law enforcement officers have no authority to take any police action solely because the person is an undocumented alien."
So James is essentially investigating sheriffs for the "crime" of cooperating with federal authorities to enforce immigration law.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office received a similar letter earlier this year, and sources told The Post that more counties will likely be targeted in the coming days.
Republican leaders blast James for war on law enforcement
Upstate Representative Elise Stefanik, who is considering a run for governor, blasted James for declaring "war against law enforcement."
"Kathy Hochul and Tish James’ New York is illegals first, New Yorkers last," Stefanik told The Post.
"This is a continuation of Kathy Hochul and NY Democrats’ war against law enforcement. Just last week, Kathy Hochul embarrassed all New Yorkers when she was unaware of the violent crimes committed by illegals against New Yorkers including being burned alive, raped, and molested."
Stefanik said she stands behind "President Trump, federal law enforcement, and our County Sheriffs who are working every day to restore law and order in our communities, fulfilling their constitutional oaths."
The timing of James’ investigation is particularly rich given that Trump’s Justice Department is currently investigating her for alleged mortgage fraud in her private real estate dealings.
James denied those claims as political retribution, but now she’s engaging in the exact same behavior by targeting sheriffs who cooperate with the Trump administration.
Federal officials call out James’ ridiculous priorities
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin called James’ investigation "unbelievable" during an interview on WABC 770 AM.
"It’s unbelievable. They have so many issues right now in New York City… It has been flooded with illegal immigrants [because of its] sanctuary city policy so that we cannot get these child molesters, get these rapists, get these convicted murderers, get these gang members out of the city," McLaughlin said.
"For her to spend her time and resources and New York taxpayer dollars on this is absolutely ridiculous."
McLaughlin noted that Democrats like James are "rudderless" and doubling down on the same failed policies that cost them the 2024 election.
"All of this speaks to a broader theme we’ve seen go on with Democrats. So many of them are just rudderless. They don’t have a message, and they’re doubling down on everything that they lost on in 2024 [including] mass illegal immigration," she explained.
While Trump works to make America safe again by removing dangerous criminals from our communities, James is wasting taxpayer money investigating the very law enforcement officers trying to protect New Yorkers.
James puts politics over public safety
Oswego County has seen several high-profile federal immigration raids recently, which likely explains why James is targeting Sheriff Hilton.
Instead of celebrating the removal of dangerous criminals from New York communities, James is investigating the local sheriffs who helped make it possible.
This is the same approach that has turned New York into a sanctuary for violent criminals while law-abiding citizens suffer.
James’ spokesperson claimed the office "does not ‘target’ New York counties for cooperating with the federal government" and said they only review matters concerning potential civil rights violations.
But the letter speaks for itself – James is clearly targeting sheriffs who work with federal immigration authorities.
The Attorney General’s office received and investigates corruption allegations, but there’s no indication of any formal complaints about civil rights violations in Oswego County.
This appears to be nothing more than a fishing expedition designed to intimidate local law enforcement from cooperating with the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.
While Americans elected Trump to secure the border and deport dangerous criminals, Democrat officials like James are doing everything they can to obstruct those efforts.
The people of New York deserve better than an Attorney General who puts illegal aliens ahead of their safety and security.
