Democrats are scrambling to find their footing after their crushing 2024 defeat.
One rising star thought she had all the answers.
But Jasmine Crockett got some bad news from James Carville she's going to hate.
James Carville destroys Jasmine Crockett's vanity Senate campaign
Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett launched her doomed Senate campaign with the kind of fanfare that screams "look at me."
The Dallas Congresswoman held a rally where she was introduced by a rapper who performed a verse about her.
Even Democrats can't pretend this isn't a vanity project dressed up as a serious campaign.
Veteran Democrat strategist James Carville cut through the nonsense on his Politics War Room podcast.
"First of all, it seems like she's well-educated. It seems like she's got a lot of energy. But she, to me, she violates the first rule of politics, and that is, in politics, you always make it about the voters and never about yourself," Carville said.¹
"You can get all the hits. You can get all the clicks. You can get on all of the TV shows. You can get in as long as you're polemic, but you're not helping very much," Carville explained.²
"Winning elections is not how many clicks you get or how much overnight fundraising you do. Winning elections is being part of framing issues and understanding where people are coming from, and I don't think [Congresswoman] Crockett is very good at that. I'll be very frank," Carville added.³
That's a brutal assessment from the man who helped Bill Clinton win the Presidency.
Crockett's campaign is all ego and no substance
Crockett announced she's running with the slogan "Texas Tough" because Democrats need a "bigger voice."
She didn't say Texas needs better policies or solutions to actual problems.
"There are a lot of people that said, 'You gotta stay in the House. We need our voice. We need you there,'" Crockett told supporters. "And I understand. But what we need is a bigger voice."⁴
The campaign announcement said it all when she played a video of Trump calling her a "very low IQ person" and then smirked at the camera.
Crockett vowed to focus on "affordability" but spent most of her launch speech attacking Trump.
"Trump, I know you're watching, so let me tell you directly," Crockett declared. "You're not entitled to a damn thing in Texas. You better get to work because I'm coming for you."⁵
Real Texans dealing with high grocery prices and struggling to pay rent don't care about Crockett's personal vendetta against the President.
Republicans are barely containing their excitement about Crockett's campaign.
RINO Senator John Cornyn told reporters she's "the worst possible candidate they could have in Texas."⁶
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has been openly goading her to run for months because they know she can't win.
"Jasmine Crockett leading her primary is the latest sign that the Democrat Party is being run by radical leftists," NRSC spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez said.⁷
Democrats handed Republicans exactly what they wanted
Carville's assessment reflects a brutal truth Democrats refuse to face.
The party spent four years elevating social media performance artists over serious policymakers.
Crockett became famous for calling Marjorie Taylor Greene "bleach blonde, bad built, butch body" during a House hearing.
That clip went viral and Crockett turned it into campaign merchandise.
She built her entire brand on viral moments and Twitter clout rather than legislative accomplishments.
Now she thinks that translates into winning a statewide Senate race in Texas.
Democrats haven't won a statewide race in Texas since 1994.
Trump won Texas by 14 points in 2024.
Senator Ted Cruz defeated Colin Allred by 9 points last year despite Allred raising over $100 million.
But Crockett is convinced her Twitter following and MSNBC appearances make her the one who can finally flip Texas.
The reality is Republicans couldn't have asked for a better opponent.
Crockett gives them a target who perfectly embodies everything voters rejected about Democrats in 2024 – all performance, no substance, obsessed with Trump instead of kitchen table issues.
Carville understands winning elections requires connecting with voters on the issues they care about.
Crockett thinks winning requires getting more Instagram followers and dunking on Republicans in viral videos.
That might work in a safe Democrat district.
It's a recipe for disaster in a statewide Texas race.
