James Comey spent years calling Trump a threat to American democracy.
Now a federal grand jury wants to know what Comey did to that democracy himself.
The Justice Department subpoenaed the former FBI director last week – and this time, there's nowhere left to hide.
The Russiagate Intelligence Report That Launched the Witch Hunt
The subpoena targets Comey's role in drafting the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment – the report that claimed Russia rigged the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win.
It handed Democrats the weapon they used to delegitimize Trump's victory, fuel the Mueller witch hunt, and spy on an incoming administration for four straight years.
Now the Director of National Intelligence has released records showing what actually happened behind closed doors.
Obama convened a secret National Security Council meeting on December 9, 2016 – one month after Trump won.
John Brennan, James Clapper, Susan Rice, Andrew McCabe, and Loretta Lynch were all in the room.
Within days, an email went out from Clapper's office with the subject line "POTUS tasking on Russia Election Meddling" – ordering a new assessment "per the President's request."
A team of just five analysts drafted the whole thing in less than a week, with the Defense Intelligence Agency and the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research locked out of the process entirely.
Senior CIA officers objected to the core conclusion that Russia specifically wanted Trump to win, calling it supported by essentially a single source.
They were overruled.
Comey's FBI then insisted the debunked Steele Dossier be included – the same document Hillary Clinton's campaign paid for.
The ODNI's own records describe what followed as a "treasonous conspiracy" using "contrived false narratives" to undermine a duly elected president.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said it plainly: the Obama administration "conspired to subvert the will of the American people" and staged "a years-long coup" against Trump.
A subsequent CIA review confirmed the ICA violated basic intelligence tradecraft standards and showed evidence of political bias.
Aileen Cannon and the Florida Grand Jury Now Own This Case
The grand jury answering these questions is based in Fort Pierce, Florida.
The judge overseeing it is Aileen Cannon – the same judge who dismissed Jack Smith's politically motivated classified documents case against Trump in 2024.
Fort Pierce has exactly one district court judge, and that judge is Aileen Cannon.
It also has a jury pool that doesn't consist of Washington D.C. Democrats who attended January 6th Committee viewing parties.
U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones is leading the investigation out of the Southern District of Florida, and he has issued more than 130 subpoenas.
Comey is the latest name on that list – joining Brennan, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, and Andrew McCabe.
What Obama's intelligence chiefs did to Donald Trump is becoming a criminal case.
Comey's previous indictment – on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstruction – was dismissed in November when a judge ruled the prosecutor had been improperly appointed.
But that dismissal was without prejudice.
The Justice Department appealed.
And now prosecutors have done something smarter – they pulled Comey into the conspiracy case, where every move anyone in that network made through 2023 keeps the clock alive.
That means they can come right back at him.
This Is What Accountability Actually Looks Like
Democrats and their allies in the media spent eight years insisting that no one is above the law.
They said it when they indicted Trump on 91 bogus felony counts across four simultaneous prosecutions. They celebrated raids on Mar-a-Lago. They impeached him twice and called it justice.
Now the same principle applies to James Comey.
This is the man who briefed Trump on the Steele Dossier – and then watched the details of that briefing get leaked to CNN the same day.
He signed three FISA warrant applications to spy on Trump's associates using opposition research his own agents knew was garbage.
Then he had a friend leak a private presidential memo to The New York Times to trigger a special counsel appointment.
When the first case collapsed, Comey called it "malevolent and incompetent" – and predicted Trump would keep coming for him anyway.
He wasn't wrong about that part.
The difference now is Judge Cannon, a Fort Pierce jury pool, and 130 subpoenas building a case that connects every piece of what Obama's intelligence team did from 2016 through 2023.
Someone has to answer for what was done to the 74 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump – and then watched their country get turned into a weapon against him.
