House Republican Moves to Make Building a Digital Dollar the Same Crime as Counterfeiting

Justin Trudeau froze Canadian truckers' bank accounts for donating to a protest.

Now an Ohio congressman is moving to make sure that weapon can never be built into American law.

His plan wouldn't just ban the digital dollar – it would make building one a federal crime from day one.

The CBDC Bill That Criminalizes Government Financial Surveillance Before It Starts

Rep. Warren Davidson calls it exactly what it is.

"CBDC = communist money for the digital age," Davidson wrote on X last month.

His proposed legislation doesn't just ban a central bank digital currency (CBDC) – it criminalizes every step of building one.

Under Davidson's bill, planning a CBDC is conspiracy, designing one carries the same federal charge as designing counterfeit plates, and launching one is counterfeiting with prison time for every accomplice.

Davidson told Fox News Digital that programmable money would hand Washington a power Americans have never surrendered: control over what you can buy.

A pickup truck driver fills his tank at $10 per gallon while a hybrid driver pays $2 – not because of supply and demand, but because the government programmed the money to punish the wrong choice.

"I think it's dystopian," Davidson said. "I definitely want to stop it."

China's Digital Yuan Already Controls How Citizens Spend – Democrats Want the Same Power Here

This isn't a hypothetical – China already built it.

Beijing's digital yuan – the e-CNY – is already programmed to expire, to restrict purchases, and to vanish from your account the moment Communist Party officials decide you've done something wrong.

Digital yuan transactions exploded more than 800 percent between 2023 and 2025, and China links every transaction to its social credit system. A low score means restricted access to your own money.

The Center for a New American Security warned the system gives the CCP direct power to punish citizens financially through that same social credit score. The technology doesn't care which government runs it – a digital dollar with programmable controls is a digital yuan with American branding.

Senator Elizabeth Warren wants to ban cryptocurrency and replace it with CBDCs – and that's not a coincidence. Bitcoin requires no government approval. A CBDC requires nothing but.

The Left hates crypto because it gives Americans a financial exit, and CBDCs are the cage they're building to seal it off.

Congress Already Banned the Digital Dollar – But Only Until 2030

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC – but that prohibition expires December 31, 2030. The law literally states that "provisions of this section shall cease to be effective on December 31, 2030."

Majority Whip Tom Emmer's Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act passed the House with permanent language. Democrats stripped it out.

Davidson signed a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader John Thune warning that a four-year prohibition isn't a solution – it's a countdown clock. His bill makes CBDC development a federal crime, not a temporary policy that evaporates when the political winds shift.

"I think we should end this Fed," Davidson said. He's not calling for the abolition of central banking – he says the current institution is too broken to fix.

"I don't know that you could reform the current one without ending it," he said.

Davidson is right about all of it.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau didn't have a CBDC when he froze the truckers' accounts in 2022 – he did it with emergency orders, a list of names, and a phone call to the banks, and it still worked.

With a CBDC, there's no list, no emergency order, no phone call – just a flag in the system and your money stops working automatically, instantly, invisibly, with no warrant, no hearing, and no appeal.

That's not a slippery slope – Canada already slid down it.

Davidson's bill doesn't debate the merits of digital currency – it skips the policy argument entirely and says building this thing is a crime.

That's how you stop something – not with a sunset clause that expires in four years, but with handcuffs for the people designing the machinery.

The only question left is whether Congress moves before the 2030 clock runs out and the door swings open for Gavin Newsom or whoever Democrats install next.
