How NIH Revived a Banned Fauci Transgender Mouse Experiment With Your Tax Dollars
White Coat Waste first exposed the Biden-era grants in late 2024 – dozens of NIH-funded experiments creating what researchers called "transfeminine" and "transmasculine" mice, rats, and monkeys through ovary removal, testosterone injections, skull drilling, and brain toxin injections.
DOGE moved fast. In March 2025, Trump and Elon Musk cut seven NIH grants for these experiments, totaling $8 million.
HHS official Rich Danker then told The Gateway Pundit in writing: "None of the funds from these grants are currently funding transgender animal experiments, and no other NIH grants still fund transgender animal experiments."
That statement turned out to be wrong.
A federal court ordered NIH to resume funding for hundreds of studies – including the University of California San Diego research – ruling the original terminations "arbitrary and capricious."
The court order covered only the existing budget period. When that period ended, NIH had zero legal obligation to issue new money.
They did it anyway.
In January 2026, NIH approved $584,117 for a new budget period at UCSD. White Coat Waste obtained the records through a Freedom of Information Act request and went public this week.

The UCSD experiment studies what happens to female biology when flooded with male hormones.
First the mice are surgically stripped of their ovaries. Then come testosterone injections. Then skull drilling and the direct injection of toxins into brain tissue. Records show the project ends with the decapitation of nearly 10,000 animals.
This is a deliberate choice by NIH bureaucrats to spend your money on an experiment the president canceled – after a court order expired and handed them a clean exit.
White Coat Waste's Justin Goodman put it directly: "The NIH is openly defying President Trump and blowing up claims from RFK's team that it had stopped funding transgender animal tests."
Rep. Paul Gosar assembled 19 House Republicans – including GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain – in a letter to the House Appropriations Committee demanding a complete ban on NIH transgender animal testing in the fiscal year 2027 spending bill.
The letter names what Biden's NIH funded under Fauci: lab animals subjected to invasive surgeries, hormone injections, wounding, electric shocks, and street drug overdoses.
Gosar was blunt: "Tax dollars shouldn't be funding the Biden Administration's sickening transgender animal tests. That's why I've been working with White Coat Waste to stop the NIH and other federal agencies from wasting money on this woke pseudoscience ever again."
That's the Fauci legacy in 2026. He retired as the richest federal employee in American history by salary, benefits, and pension – richer than the President, richer than any general – and the grants he signed are still moving through the NIH system.
Trump cuts it. A judge brings it back. HHS celebrates too early. And the same bureaucrats who approved it the first time are still sitting at their desks.
Congressional language does what executive orders cannot – it survives court challenges, budget cycles, and the quiet defiance of people who never appear on camera. That's why the Gosar appropriations push is the only permanent fix on the table.
Goodman's message is simple: "Stop the money. Stop the madness."
