The pandemic led to one of the most frightening rollbacks of liberty seen in decades.
And the elites who botched COVID appeared to be just getting started.
Because a Biden ally and Five Eyes nation PM just confirmed “war” footing within the intelligence alliance and U.N. nations over speech.
UN hears from Five Eyes leader about “weapon of war” in online free speech
Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of “Five Eyes” nation New Zealand, spoke at the United Nations last week about a new effort to crack down on freedom of speech.
Ardern instituted some of the most heinous COVID restrictions in the world, as well as the rest of the supposedly freedom-loving western nations in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Hopefully, that’s one of the reasons she could be on the brink of getting voted out.
But before that happens, she’s called on U.N. members join in on instituting even greater crackdowns on freedom.
During her speech, Ardern categorized online free speech as a “weapon of war.”
This has become the new talking point of the authoritarian Left: free speech is too dangerous, therefore it must be curtailed.
Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald pointed out that Ardern is indeed using authoritarian language.
Ardern said, “This week we launched an initiative alongside companies and nonprofits to help improve research and understanding of how a person’s online experiences are curated by automated processes. This will also be important in understanding more about mis and disinformation online. A challenge that we must as leaders address. Sadly, I think it’s easy to dismiss this problem as one in the margins. I can certainly understand the desire to leave it to someone else. As leaders, we are rightly concerned that even those most light-touch approaches to disinformation could be misinterpreted as being hostile to the values of free speech we value so highly. But while I cannot tell you today what the answer is to this challenge, I can say with complete certainty that we cannot ignore it. To do so poses an equal threat to the norms we all value.”
In other words, leaders like Ardern must “begrudgingly” take up the challenge of policing speech online because to allow free speech would be too dangerous.
She closed by telling the U.N. delegates about their opportunity to stop “these particular weapons of war” and ensure they do not become established.
Recalibrate what authoritarianism looks like
Greenwald jumped all over her absurd speech, writing, “This is the face of authoritarianism – even though it looks different than you were taught to expect. And it’s the mindset of tyrants everywhere. This is someone so inebriated by her sense of righteousness and superiority that she views dissent as an evil too dangerous to allow.”

Greenwald is entirely correct.
Global elites have decided that only they know the truth, and only they can filter out the lies.
Perhaps that argument could hold water if elites hadn’t so badly destroyed their credibility.
Greenwald has become persona non grata because he refuses to blindly go along with the Left’s march toward authoritarianism.
As Greenwald pointed out, people need to recalibrate what authoritarianism looks like.
