Maxine Waters stepped in it after this attack on Trump backfired in the worst way

Maxine Waters keeps shooting herself in the foot.

The California Congresswoman just can't help herself.

And Maxine Waters stepped in it after this attack on Trump backfired in the worst way.

Maxine Waters blasted President Trump's effort to streamline the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and accused him of endangering Americans' financial data.

That was a massive mistake.

Because Waters just reminded everyone about the time Biden's CFPB leaked 250,000 Americans' financial information and got away with it.

Biden's CFPB Exposed Your Financial Data and Never Told You

Around Valentine's Day 2023, a CFPB staffer leaked the financial information of over 250,000 Americans.¹

Read that again. Someone working for the agency that's supposed to protect your financial data secretly transferred your personal information from 45 financial institutions to a personal email account.

Your bank account details. Your credit history. Your Social Security number. Gone.

The Biden administration called it a "major incident."²

Here's what they didn't call it: a crime worth prosecuting.

The staffer got fired. That's it. No charges. No prosecution. No consequences beyond losing a government job.

Rohit Chopra ran the agency when this happened. He faced zero sanctions. No accountability whatsoever. He kept his job, kept his salary, kept pretending to protect consumers while covering up the biggest data breach in CFPB history.

And here's the part that should make your blood boil.

The CFPB didn't even tell you your data was stolen.

They made the banks do it. Financial institutions were told to notify their own customers rather than CFPB taking responsibility.³

Some banks privately told regulators this was designed to make them look like the bad guys when CFPB was the one who lost your data.

"Reporters covering this were told they had been, but CFPB was very cagey about providing the text of letters or emails that would have been used to notify customers," one consultant working on CFPB regulatory issues said. "No one really knows for sure, to this day."⁴

Translation: They might not have told everyone. Over two years later, Americans whose financial data was stolen might still have no idea.

Then-House Financial Services Chairman Patrick McHenry said the breach raised serious concerns about how CFPB safeguards personal information.

Republicans on his committee demanded answers from Chopra.

They never got them. Chopra stonewalled. The Biden administration protected him. And the whole scandal got memory-holed while Democrats moved on to attacking Trump.

Waters Attacks Trump for Fixing Biden's Mess

Now Maxine Waters wants to lecture Trump about data security.

She released a statement claiming Trump's budget cuts at CFPB endangered consumer data.

"Over the past year, we have witnessed an unprecedented assault on the CFPB by the Trump Administration, which has systematically weakened the agency's abilities to protect American consumers," Waters said.⁵

That's garbage and Waters knows it.

The agency leaked 250,000 Americans' financial data under Biden. Nobody got prosecuted. Nobody faced consequences. And Democrats covered it up.

Now Trump's trying to downsize a corrupt agency that can't protect the data it's supposed to safeguard, and Waters calls that an assault on consumers?

President Trump's Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought took over as Acting CFPB Director in February 2025 and immediately started cleaning house.

Vought paused the agency's witch hunts against businesses conservatives support.

He announced CFPB would stop burning through taxpayer money requesting unlimited funds from the Federal Reserve. He's running the agency lean and accountable for the first time in years.

Democrats are melting down because Vought's doing exactly what Trump promised – draining the swamp and cutting wasteful spending.

Waters and Senate Democrats even held a protest outside CFPB headquarters, claiming Trump was illegally shutting it down.

She falsely claimed Trump was "giving big banks and giant corporations the green light to scam families."

That's a lie from the Congresswoman whose party leaked your financial data and never held anyone accountable.

The Biden CFPB Was Corrupt From Top to Bottom

The Valentine's Day data breach wasn't Chopra's only scandal.

A lawsuit claimed Chopra exceeded the agency's legal authority and weaponized CFPB to amass power over businesses, banks, and consumers he didn't like.

The agency had to settle a class action lawsuit in 2024 brought by minority employees and women alleging the discrimination that started under Trump actually got worse under Biden.⁶

Chopra used CFPB as his personal political weapon.

He targeted businesses for ideological reasons. He ignored legal limits on his authority. And when his agency leaked 250,000 Americans' financial data, he covered it up and faced zero consequences.

That's the agency Waters wants to defend.

Here's what really has Democrats panicked: Waters attacking Trump over data security just reminded everyone about Biden's massive coverup.

Vought and relevant oversight committees may now take another look at the Valentine's Day breach. Republicans on the Financial Services Committee never got full answers from Chopra about what really happened.

Who had access to that stolen data? Where did it go? Did foreign adversaries get it? Was anyone else involved beyond the one staffer they fired?

Nobody knows because Chopra and Biden buried it.

This remains one of the bigger but less publicized scandals of the Biden era. Democrats desperately wanted it forgotten.

Maxine Waters just dragged it back into the spotlight while trying to attack Trump.

You can't make this up. Waters thought she was scoring political points. Instead she reminded Americans that Democrats leaked their financial data, covered it up, and never held anyone accountable.

Trump's cleaning up the mess. Democrats are attacking him for it. And voters see exactly what's happening.
