Remember when Democrats blamed Republican rhetoric for every act of political violence in America?
They spent years telling conservatives that words have consequences and violent language leads to violent actions.
And Jasmine Crockett made one confession that revealed Democrats’ awful reality about political violence.
The texts that should have ended Jay Jones' career
Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett praised the Democrat Party for refusing to force Virginia Attorney General-elect Jay Jones to resign after his murderous texts surfaced during the campaign.
Jones won his race despite texts from August 2022 showing him fantasizing about shooting then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert "two bullets to the head."¹
But it gets worse.
Much worse.
Jones then said he wanted Gilbert's children to "die in their mother's arms."²
Read that again.
A man running to be Virginia's top law enforcement officer – the Attorney General – sent texts about a Republican watching his young children bleed out while his wife held them.
"Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head," Jones texted former Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner.³
When Coyner told him to stop, Jones called her and doubled down.
He explained that "it would take Gilbert's wife holding their dying children in her arms" for him to take action on gun safety.⁴
These aren't abstract policy disagreements or heated political rhetoric.
This is a grown man – a former state legislator and assistant attorney general – fantasizing in detail about a colleague's murder and describing children dying in their mother's arms.
Democrats knew about the texts and didn't care
Republicans urged Jones to drop out of the race.
They demanded that Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger call on him to step down.
Spanberger condemned his comments but refused to ask him to leave the race.
Virginia's two Democratic U.S. Senators – Tim Kaine and Mark Warner – also condemned the texts but continued supporting Jones.
"I do," Kaine told CNN when asked if he still supports Jones. "The comments are completely indefensible. I've known Jay Jones for 25 years, and those comments are very much out of character for him."⁵
Translation: We don't like what he said, but we need that Attorney General seat more than we need principles.
Both Jones and Spanberger won their races.
Virginia Democrats decided political power mattered more than basic human decency.
Crockett called child murder fantasies a "distraction"
During an appearance on "Roland Martin Unfiltered," Crockett argued it was good that Democratic leaders did not urge Jones to step down, calling his scandal nothing more than a "distraction."⁶
Let that sink in.
Texts fantasizing about children dying = a "distraction."
"And I was very excited to see that he was able to pull off the win," Crockett told host Roland Martin.⁶
She praised Democrats for abandoning what she called the "purity test."⁶
A "purity test."
As if not talking about murdering children is some impossible standard of perfection instead of basic human decency.
Martin mentioned that Democrats would have forced Jones to step down "10 years ago."⁶
Crockett didn't dispute that.
She just argued that winning the Virginia Attorney General seat mattered more than holding Jones accountable.
"Say what you got to say, denounce what he did, but in this moment, do you trust this Republican attorney general to stand up?" Crockett said.⁶
"At the end of the day, you got to put your mask on first," Crockett added, telling voters they needed to hold their noses and vote for Democrats despite their shortfalls.⁶
This happened one month after Charlie Kirk's assassination
Here's what makes this stomach-turning.
Jones' violent texts became public on October 3 – less than a month after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated during his "Prove Me Wrong" tour at Utah Valley University on September 10.⁷
The entire nation was having a conversation about political violence and whether heated rhetoric leads to actual bloodshed.
Democrats spent years blaming Trump's language for January 6.
They've accused Republicans of "stochastic terrorism" for using strong language about Democrat policies.
The moment Charlie Kirk was murdered, the Left immediately blamed conservative rhetoric and called for toning down violent language.
Then Democrats nominated, defended, and elected a man who fantasized about shooting a Republican and watching his children die.
The NBC News Exit Poll showed 45% of Virginia voters said the text messages disqualified Jones for the job of attorney general.⁸
He won anyway because Democrat voters cared more about beating Republicans than about electing someone who doesn't want dead children.
Todd Gilbert is a real person with real children
Here's what Democrats want you to forget.
Todd Gilbert isn't some abstract political figure.
He's a husband and father who represented Virginia's 15th House District.
His wife Jennifer is a real person who brings their young children to the Virginia General Assembly.
During a debate, Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares reminded voters of that reality.
"This wasn't a hypothetical. This wasn't some figure that you know from far away. You actually know Todd. This is a flesh-and-blood, real husband. Jennifer is a real mom. These are real kids," Miyares said. "How in the world could you ever show compassion and comfort a grieving mother that has ever lost a child to violence?"⁹
Jones had no good answer.
He pivoted to attacking Trump and January 6.⁹
Because that's what Democrats always do when caught – change the subject and blame Trump.
Jasmine Crockett has her own history of violent rhetoric
Crockett's defense of Jones isn't surprising given her own track record.
In March 2025, the Texas Democrat said "I think that you punch, I think you punch, I think you OK with punching" when asked how Democrats can win elections in Texas.¹⁰
She specifically targeted Senator Ted Cruz.
"It's Ted Cruz. I mean, like this dude has to be knocked over the head, like hard, right? Like there is no niceties with him, like at all. Like you go clean off on him," Crockett said.¹⁰
Attorney General Pam Bondi warned Crockett to "tread very carefully" after she also called for Elon Musk to be "taken down" during a "Tesla Takedown" livestream.¹¹
Crockett keeps doubling down on violent language.
She called for "punching" opponents and knocking Ted Cruz "over the head."
She wanted Musk "taken down."
Now she's defending a candidate who fantasized about shooting a colleague and his children dying in their mother's arms.
This is who Democrats put on television to represent their party.
What this exposes about the modern Democrat Party
The Democrat double standard on political violence isn't just hypocrisy anymore.
It's something darker.
They've completely abandoned the idea that some things are beyond the pale.
They spent years lecturing conservatives about the danger of violent rhetoric.
They blamed Republican language for every attack, every protest, every act of violence in America.
They said words have consequences and that heated political language inspires unstable people to act.
But the moment one of their own got caught – not just using violent rhetoric, but specifically fantasizing about murdering a Republican's children – Democrats decided it was a "distraction" that shouldn't cost him an election.
Virginia voters had a choice.
They could elect Jason Miyares, a Republican with a clean record who never talked about murdering anyone's children.
Or they could elect Jay Jones, who sent texts fantasizing about a colleague's murder and his kids dying in their mother's arms.
Democrats chose Jones.
And Jasmine Crockett went on television to celebrate that choice and praise her party for getting rid of "purity tests" like "don't joke about dead children."
Think about what that means.
Todd Gilbert's wife now has to live in a state where the Attorney General – the top law enforcement officer – once fantasized about her watching their children bleed out in her arms.
His children will grow up knowing Virginia's Attorney General talked about their murder.
And Democrats call that progress.
They call that "putting your mask on first."
They call anyone who objects to this guilty of imposing a "purity test."
This isn't about politics anymore.
This is about whether we're still a country where some things – like talking about murdering children – disqualify you from public office regardless of your party affiliation.
Democrats just answered that question.
And their answer should terrify every American.
