Barack Obama's inner circle thought they were untouchable.
The Deep State spent years protecting the Russia hoax architects from accountability.
But a prosecutor turned the tables on Obama and the Deep State with one unthinkable move.
Trump prosecutor unleashes investigation Obama officials never saw coming
Jason Reding Quinones, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, just issued more than 30 subpoenas targeting Obama administration officials who ran the Russia investigation against Trump's 2016 campaign.¹
The subpoenas demand every email, text message, and internal document from July 2016 through February 2017 — the exact window when Obama's team manufactured the Russia collusion narrative.
Former CIA Director John Brennan got hit. So did former FBI agent Peter Strzok and ex-FBI lawyer Lisa Page — the two lovebirds whose text messages exposed the "insurance policy" against Trump.²
Quinones empaneled a grand jury on January 12, signaling indictments could be coming.³
Two career prosecutors already quit rather than join the investigation team.⁴ The office is now recruiting outside attorneys to handle what insiders are calling the "grand conspiracy" case.⁵
Obama's Russian intel assessment was manufactured after Trump won
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard declassified the smoking gun.
Before the 2016 election, the Intelligence Community assessed Russia was "probably not trying to influence the election by using cyber means."⁶
On December 7, 2016 — after Trump won — talking points for Obama's Director of National Intelligence James Clapper stated "Foreign adversaries did not use cyberattacks on election infrastructure to alter the US Presidential election outcome."⁷
Then Obama called a secret meeting on December 9 with Brennan, Clapper, Susan Rice, and others.⁸
Hours later, Clapper's assistant sent an email: "POTUS tasking on Russia Election Meddling" — ordering intelligence agencies to create a new "assessment per the President's request."⁹
That manufactured January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment became the basis for the Mueller investigation, two impeachments, the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, and years of witch hunts against Trump.¹⁰
Obama changed intelligence conclusions after Trump won to create a false narrative that Russia helped Trump beat Hillary Clinton.
On the president's direct orders.
Career prosecutors abandoning ship rather than go after Obama
The Miami prosecutor's office called an emergency meeting Monday after two prosecutors resigned rather than join the investigation.¹⁸
Both were considered rising stars. One is a registered Republican. The other is a military veteran.¹⁹
They walked away from their careers rather than participate in what they view as political prosecution.
Quinones responded by inviting outside attorneys to join a new unit to take on the "anti-Trumpers."²⁰
Mike Davis, a former GOP Senate staffer and Trump legal advisor, has spent three years calling for criminal charges against Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and senior intelligence officials.²¹
Davis posted a photo with Quinones Friday with a simple message: "Justice is coming."²²
Trump made clear he wants Obama prosecuted, though he acknowledged his Supreme Court victory granting presidential immunity probably protects his predecessor.²³
"He has done criminal acts, no question about it," Trump said about Obama. "But he has immunity and it probably helps him a lot. He owes me big."²⁴
Why this time is different
Special Counsel John Durham spent three years investigating and never charged senior Obama officials.²⁵
But Quinones isn't bound by Special Counsel regulations that limited Durham.
He's conducting his investigation in Miami — Trump country — where he can empanel grand juries in counties Trump won by double digits.²⁶
And he has the declassified documents showing Obama officials manufactured intelligence on the president's direct orders.
The 2020 bipartisan Senate report found no "collusion" between Trump's campaign and Russia, according to Senator Marco Rubio.²⁷
It found "irrefutable evidence of Russian meddling" — but meddling isn't helping Trump win.²⁸
The report showed Putin wanted to undermine American democracy, not help either candidate.²⁹ Putin held back damaging Clinton material to release after her expected victory.³⁰
If Russia wanted to help Trump, they would have released it before the election.
Obama's team twisted Russia's discord campaign into a false narrative that Trump colluded with Moscow.
They manufactured it after Trump won to delegitimize his presidency.
The stakes for both parties
Never before has a prosecutor launched a grand jury investigation targeting senior officials from a previous administration.
Democrats scream Trump is weaponizing the Justice Department for revenge.
Trump supporters see it differently.
They watched Obama's Justice Department spy on the Trump campaign using the manufactured Steele dossier.
They watched Mueller's two-year witch hunt.
They watched two sham impeachments.
They watched the FBI raid Mar-a-Lago.
They watched Democrat prosecutors file bogus charges to put Trump in prison.
From their perspective, Democrats started this war.
Trump is finishing it.
Can Quinones convince a grand jury to indict senior intelligence officials? Will judges allow it? Can he find twelve jurors willing to convict?
Nobody knows yet.
But Obama's officials are lawyering up fast.
And this investigation is just getting started.
