Republican Congressman Warren Davidson just threw down the gauntlet against the radical left with a bill that’s making waves across Washington.

The move will infuriate sufferers of a certain condition on Capitol Hill.

But Warren Davidson doesn’t care and he just dropped the hammer with this new bill that has Trump critics seeing red.

Republicans take aim at Trump Derangement Syndrome

Representative Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced legislation that takes direct aim at what conservatives have long identified as “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) – the unhinged hatred of Donald Trump that has consumed many on the left.

The Trump Derangement Syndrome Research Act of 2025 directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct formal research into this psychological phenomenon that has gripped so many Americans since 2016.

“TDS has divided families, the country, and led to nationwide violence—including two assassination attempts on President Trump,” Rep. Davidson said in a statement. “The TDS Research Act would require the NIH to study this toxic state of mind, so we can understand the root cause and identify solutions.”

Davidson pointed out that NIH funding would be better spent understanding this pressing issue than on what he called “ludicrous studies” that have little real-world application.

“Instead of funding ludicrous studies such as giving methamphetamine to cats or teaching monkeys to gamble for their drinking water, the NIH should use that funding to research issues that are relevant to the real world,” Davidson stated.

Addressing a serious issue plaguing America

The implications of TDS have been anything but trivial. Two assassination attempts on President Trump last year demonstrated just how dangerous this mindset can become when taken to extremes.

Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL), an original cosponsor of the legislation, didn’t mince words about the severity of the problem.

“Trump Derangement Syndrome has become an epidemic on the Left,” Moore said. “Some individuals who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome have participated in nationwide political and social unrest, even trying to assassinate President Trump twice.”

Moore described the legislation as “common-sense” that will “use already appropriated funds on an NIH study that can make a difference.”

Getting to the root of the problem

The bill leverages existing NIH programs at the National Institute of Mental Health to investigate several critical aspects of TDS, including:

  • The origins and contributing factors behind TDS
  • The media’s role in amplifying and spreading TDS among populations
  • Long-term impacts on individuals, communities, and public discourse
  • Potential interventions to mitigate extreme behaviors
  • Data-driven insights into how media and polarization shape political violence

Importantly, the legislation requires no additional spending, instead redirecting existing NIH resources toward what the sponsors consider a more pressing public health concern.

A divided nation seeks answers

The introduction of this bill highlights the deep divisions that continue to plague American politics even after Trump’s historic return to the White House.

Since 2016, media outlets have fueled anti-Trump sentiment with constant negative coverage, while tech platforms have been accused of amplifying extreme voices.

This toxic political environment reached a fever pitch with two assassination attempts against President Trump during the 2024 campaign, demonstrating the real-world dangers of political derangement.

The bill would require an annual report to Congress on the findings, potentially providing lawmakers with scientific data to address the growing problem of political extremism and violence.

Critics of the bill are already dismissing it as a partisan stunt, with some media personalities exhibiting the very symptoms the legislation aims to study.

By redirecting resources to study this phenomenon, Republicans hope to bring attention to the dangers of political derangement while finding potential solutions to heal America’s deep political wounds.
