The battle for America’s most watched cable news network just ended.
The Murdoch family civil war that’s been brewing for years finally reached its conclusion.
And the outcome has the Left scrambling to figure out their next move.
The succession fight that decided Fox News’ future
For years, the Murdoch family has been locked in a behind-the-scenes battle that would make HBO’s Succession look like a family picnic.
At stake wasn’t just billions of dollars – it was control of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post.
The liberal media kept pushing the narrative that Rupert Murdoch’s more moderate children might take over and turn Fox News into another CNN clone.
Those dreams got crushed when the family announced their deal.
Lachlan Murdoch – the executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corp. and the most conservative of Rupert’s children – will maintain control of the entire media empire.¹
Under the terms of the agreement, a new trust called LGC Holdco LLC will be established for Lachlan and his younger sisters Grace and Chloe.
But here’s the kicker – Lachlan controls all the votes in the new trust.
That means he gets to call the shots at Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and every other property in the Murdoch empire.
Why the Left is scrambling after this announcement
The liberal establishment has been praying for years that James Murdoch would somehow wrestle control away from his older brother.
James – Rupert’s second son – has made no secret of his distaste for Fox News’ conservative direction.
He resigned from the Fox board back in 2020 citing "disagreements over certain editorial content" and "strategic decisions."²
Translation: he couldn’t stand that Fox News was actually giving conservatives a voice.
James had been positioning himself as the reasonable, moderate alternative who would bring Fox News back to the center.
The Left loved this idea because they knew "back to the center" really meant "shift left like every other news outlet."
Instead, they got Lachlan – who industry insiders say is actually more conservative than his 94-year-old father.
Since taking over day-to-day operations in 2016, Lachlan has kept Fox News firmly planted on the right side of the political spectrum.
The network has remained the most-watched cable news channel for more than two decades under his leadership.
What this means for the future of conservative media
Look, Fox News isn’t perfect – no news outlet is.
They’ve made some decisions over the years that left conservatives scratching their heads.
But here’s what the Left understood that some conservatives didn’t: losing Fox News would have been a disaster for the conservative movement.
With Lachlan now firmly in control, Fox News will continue to be the one major television network that doesn’t treat conservative viewpoints like they’re toxic waste.
The Wall Street Journal and New York Post will also maintain their current editorial direction under the same strategic vision.³
Industry analysts are already confirming that this deal "ensures Fox News will retain its conservative editorial direction under Lachlan’s stewardship."
Meanwhile, James and his siblings won’t exactly be crying into their coffee – they’re each getting about $1 billion once the deal closes.
The bigger picture the media won’t tell you
This succession battle was never really about family dynamics or business strategy.
It was about whether the last major conservative voice in television news would survive.
The Left has spent decades systematically capturing every major news outlet, entertainment company, and cultural institution in America.
They thought they had a real shot at finally taking down Fox News from the inside through a family power struggle.
Instead, they got a reality check that’s going to sting for years.
Lachlan Murdoch just proved that sometimes the good guys actually do win – and the liberal media establishment is going to have to live with a strong conservative voice on television for the foreseeable future.
For conservatives who’ve been worried about the future of Fox News, Monday’s announcement should come as welcome news.
The network that’s been holding the line against the Left’s media monopoly just got a lot more secure.
