Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been on a roll since Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
The conservative champion isn’t backing down from the fight against left-wing extremism.
And Texas AG Ken Paxton expanded one key investigation after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Paxton expands Discord investigation after Kirk assassin connection exposed
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that his office is expanding its investigation into Discord after the suspected assassin of Charlie Kirk used the chat platform on the day of the shooting.
This isn’t some knee-jerk reaction from Paxton’s team.
The Texas Attorney General had already launched an investigation into Discord and other platforms for allegedly violating children’s privacy and safety under state law through the Securing Children Online Through Parental Empowerment Act.
But now Paxton is turning up the heat.
The newly expanded investigation will focus on Discord’s role in spreading extremist content, sexual exploitation of minors, the rising trend in extremist shootings, and minors’ addiction to the platform.
"Discord has chosen to allow extremist content, sexual exploitation, and addiction to flourish on its platform," Paxton said in a statement that pulls no punches. "It has a legal obligation to prevent minors from being exposed to these evils, but instead its actions have contributed to the growing wave of nihilistic violence all across our nation."
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspected of murdering Kirk at Utah Valley University last month, reportedly confessed to the crime in a group chat with friends on Discord.
Utah officials say Robinson discussed the rifle left at the crime scene and the engraved bullets from the shooting in the online conversations.
The killer had allegedly scrawled Antifa messaging on the bullet casings, with one message reading, "Hey fascist! Catch!"
Discord’s damage control falls flat as FBI digs deeper
Shortly after the shooting and Robinson’s arrest, Discord tried to clean up the mess with typical corporate spin.
The platform claimed its internal investigation found no evidence that Robinson used Discord to promote violence or plan the attack.
But that explanation doesn’t hold water when the suspect literally confessed to the crime on their platform.
The FBI is currently investigating the private Discord chat that Robinson used – and by extension, everyone connected to it.
During his congressional hearing last month, FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed there were "a lot more than" 20 people connected to the chat that Robinson used to brag about assassinating one of America’s most prominent young conservative leaders.
That means Discord was hosting a network of potential co-conspirators and sympathizers to political assassination.
Paxton stands with Trump Administration against left-wing terror
Paxton isn’t just going after Discord in isolation.
Paxton said he is "standing shoulder to shoulder" with the Trump Administration to combat left-wing extremism and deter future acts of political violence.
The announcement comes just days after Paxton revealed his office is targeting "leftist terror cells" in Texas.
This coordinated effort follows President Donald Trump’s decision to designate antifa as a domestic terrorist organization.
Look, here’s what’s really happening – Paxton understands that Charlie Kirk’s assassination wasn’t some isolated incident by a disturbed individual.
It was part of a broader pattern of left-wing political violence that’s been festering on platforms like Discord while Big Tech executives look the other way.
Paxton’s timing here isn’t coincidental as he battles RINO Senator John Cornyn in next year’s Republican Senate Primary.¹
Cornyn has come under fire from conservatives over his support for helping Joe Biden pass the biggest gun control bill since the Clinton Assault Weapons ban, the Safer Communities Act, and backing mass amnesty for illegal aliens.
The Attorney General has built his reputation taking on Big Tech companies, federal overreach, and woke corporations – victories that resonate with Texas Republicans.
Paxton’s move here demonstrates his strategy of targeting the platforms where extremists operate.
Most state attorneys general stick to traditional crime fighting, but Paxton has expanded into investigating Big Tech’s role in political violence.
