The CIA has a long history of running secret experiments on Americans without their knowledge or consent.
One scientist published documents the CIA spent sixty years making sure you'd never see.
What Robert Malone found in those files – about ticks, Virginia farmland, and a pathogen they buried for forty years – will make your blood run cold.
The CIA Released 282,800 Radioactive Ticks and Gave America a Lyme Disease Epidemic
Dr. Robert Malone – the biochemist who helped lay the scientific groundwork for mRNA vaccine technology – published the report after analyzing declassified government documents, Cold War bioweapons records, and the archived personal notes of the scientist who discovered the bacterium that causes Lyme disease.
Between 1966 and 1969, the U.S. military released 282,800 ticks laced with radioactive Carbon-14 across Virginia sites along bird migration routes.
Scientists tracked where the ticks traveled using Geiger counters.
Before those experiments, lone star ticks did not exist north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
Within years of the Virginia releases, they had established populations on Long Island – for the very first time.
Two independent tick experts Malone consulted about the releases said they were aghast.
One said you'd never be able to do that now.
The Chronic Lyme Cover-Up Started With a Pathogen Willy Burgdorfer Was Told to Hide
Willy Burgdorfer, the scientist who discovered Lyme disease, didn't just find one problem.
He found two.
His unpublished materials – discovered in his garage after his 2014 death – show he identified a second pathogen called the Swiss Agent in blood samples from Lyme patients in Connecticut and Long Island in the late 1970s.
He never published it.
Malone's report argues Burgdorfer was told to omit it.
The Swiss Agent – known scientifically as Rickettsia helvetica – is related to Rocky Mountain spotted fever and causes persistent flu-like symptoms that don't respond to standard antibiotics.
That explains what hundreds of thousands of chronic Lyme patients have been told for decades: the antibiotics worked, there's nothing wrong with you.
Doctors weren't incompetent.
They were working with data that had been gutted before it ever reached them.
Malone calculated a 45 percent probability that the tick experiments and the suppression of the Swiss Agent directly contributed to Lyme disease reaching epidemic levels in the United States.
Burgdorfer's own notes state he was told to omit the presence of at least one potential bioweapon from the original Lyme investigation.
Plum Island Was Ground Zero and Project 112 Was the Program Behind It All
This wasn't a rogue experiment.
Defense Secretary Robert McNamara authorized Project 112 in 1962.
The program involved 134 scheduled tests.
Production facilities could breed 100 million infected mosquitoes monthly and 50 million fleas weekly.
Every branch of the U.S. armed services and intelligence agencies was involved.
The military denied the program's existence until 2000 – when a CBS News investigation forced them to acknowledge it.
Forty years of denial.
Declassified CIA documents also describe Operation Mongoose – the 1962 Kennedy administration program to destabilize Castro's Cuba.
Under Mongoose, CIA operatives dropped infected ticks on Cuban sugarcane workers using C-123 aircraft flying nighttime missions just above the Caribbean surface to avoid radar detection.
One operative later told researchers that dropping those ticks on Cuban workers was the most disturbing mission of his career.
His four-month-old son developed a life-threatening fever requiring an emergency tracheotomy after the family was exposed upon his return.
This Is Why RFK and Congress Are Moving Now
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. hosted a formal Lyme disease roundtable at HHS in December 2025, calling it the end of the gaslighting of Lyme patients.
Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey secured language in the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act directing the Government Accountability Office to investigate whether the military experimented with ticks as bioweapons between 1945 and 1972.
Trump is expected to sign it.
Kennedy announced HHS is renewing the $10 million LymeX Innovation Accelerator to develop better diagnostics – because current tests still miss early and late-stage infections.
Up to 476,000 Americans are diagnosed with Lyme every year.
The CDC privately estimates the true infection number is even higher.
For 10 to 20 percent of those patients, symptoms never go away.
The government released the ticks and suppressed the co-infection data.
And the government denied all of it for six decades.
Malone put the documents on the table.
The GAO investigation is coming.
The question now isn't whether this happened – it's who gets held accountable.
