Attorney General Pam Bondi has had enough of sanctuary city madness.
New York’s radical policies protect criminals over citizens.
And Pam Bondi took off the gloves in this fight with New York Democrats.
Pam Bondi targets New York’s sanctuary policies
The Trump administration promised to restore law and order to America’s cities.
Attorney General Pam Bondi is making good on that promise by launching aggressive legal action against states that protect criminal illegal aliens from federal authorities.
On Thursday, the Department of Justice filed a bombshell lawsuit targeting New York State’s dangerous "Protect Our Courts Act."
This outrageous piece of legislation was rammed through New York’s legislature back in 2020 during Trump’s first term.
The law creates safe zones around state courthouses where ICE agents cannot arrest illegal aliens.
Bondi and the DOJ are finally fighting back against these reckless sanctuary policies that have made New York a magnet for criminals.
According to the DOJ’s legal filing, the Protect Our Courts Act deliberately creates barriers to prevent federal immigration agents from detaining dangerous individuals near courthouses.
Bondi made it crystal clear what’s driving this legal action.
"Lawless sanctuary policies are driving the chaos we’re seeing in California right now," Bondi wrote on X. "We refuse to accept such blatant disregard for law and order anywhere in America."
The Attorney General hit the nail on the head about how sanctuary policies fuel violence across the country.
New York built a criminal protection racket
The Protect Our Courts Act represents everything wrong with Democrat immigration policy.
This radical law essentially turns state courthouses into sanctuary zones where federal agents have their hands tied.
ICE agents are blocked from making arrests not just inside courthouses, but anywhere in the surrounding areas.
Even worse, illegal aliens traveling to and from court proceedings get special protection under this law.
But that’s not all New York has done to obstruct immigration enforcement.
The DOJ lawsuit also targets two executive orders that disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law.
These orders created additional roadblocks for federal agents trying to do their jobs.
State facilities became off-limits for immigration arrests under Cuomo’s orders.
New York employees were also banned from sharing any information that could help federal immigration authorities track down illegal aliens.
The Justice Department pulled no punches in describing how these policies undermine federal law.
According to the DOJ’s court filing, New York has created a system that actively helps dangerous criminals avoid deportation.
The lawsuit argues that these sanctuary policies violate the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, which makes federal law supreme over state and local laws.
Federal agents now face ridiculous bureaucratic hurdles when trying to arrest illegal aliens in New York.
The state’s policies force ICE to jump through extra legal hoops that Congress never intended when it authorized immigration enforcement.
Democrats choose criminals over citizens
The reaction from New York’s Democrat establishment proves they care more about protecting their radical agenda than keeping Americans safe.
Governor Kathy Hochul’s team tried to spin the lawsuit as unnecessary government overreach.
Jess D’Amelia, speaking for Hochul, claimed that "New York state cooperates with federal officials in removing convicted criminals from our State."
That statement is laughably false given the barriers New York has erected against immigration enforcement.
D’Amelia also argued that "there is no sanctuary in New York for people who commit crimes."
Anyone with eyes can see that’s complete nonsense.
The spokesperson went on to defend the courthouse protection zones by saying "it’s important that witnesses, victims and ordinary people can make use of our court system and feel safe in our courthouses and other state facilities."
This talking point completely dodges the real issue about federal immigration law.
D’Amelia dismissed the entire lawsuit as "a waste of federal resources."
That’s rich coming from a state that wastes taxpayer money protecting criminal illegal aliens.
Attorney General Letitia James showed her true colors with an equally tone-deaf response.
James’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the Protect Our Courts Act supposedly helps New Yorkers "access our courts and pursue justice without fear."
The spokesperson claimed that "due process means nothing if people are too afraid to appear in court."
This is the same tired excuse Democrats always use to justify their sanctuary policies.
"Immigrants make New York great," the spokesperson added, deliberately confusing legal immigrants with illegal aliens who broke federal law.
James promised to "proudly defend this law and all of New York’s laws" while continuing to "defend the rights and dignity of all who call New York home."
Notice how she puts the supposed rights of illegal aliens ahead of the safety of American citizens.
Bondi exposes the sanctuary city disaster
Pam Bondi understands exactly what these sanctuary policies do to American communities.
The Attorney General connected New York’s obstruction to the broader pattern of violence we’re seeing in sanctuary jurisdictions nationwide.
"Lawless sanctuary city policies are the root cause of the violence that Americans have seen in California, and New York State is similarly employing sanctuary city policies to prevent illegal aliens from apprehension," Bondi stated.
She’s absolutely right about the connection between sanctuary policies and rising crime.
When states refuse to work with federal immigration authorities, dangerous criminals stay on the streets instead of being deported.
The Justice Department filed this latest lawsuit in federal court in Albany, demanding that a judge declare New York’s sanctuary policies unconstitutional.
The legal challenge fits perfectly with President Trump’s executive order declaring a national emergency at the southern border.
Trump directed the Department of Homeland Security to develop new guidelines for immigration enforcement, especially near courthouses where states like New York have tried to create safe zones for criminals.
Voters gave Donald Trump a mandate to end the failed sanctuary policies that put criminals before citizens.
Pam Bondi is delivering on that promise by taking the fight directly to states that obstruct federal immigration law.
New York’s Democrats can whine all they want about federal overreach.
The Constitution makes it clear that federal immigration law trumps state sanctuary policies.
The Protect Our Courts Act intentionally sabotages federal agents who are trying to protect American communities from dangerous criminals.
It’s past time for New York to stop playing games with public safety and start cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
