Maxine Waters loves to be the tough interrogator when a Trump official testifies before Congress.
She thought Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent would be her latest victim.
But Maxine Waters instantly regretted confronting Scott Bessent when he dropped this bombshell from her past.
Waters’ ambush backfires spectacularly
Waters was all business during Wednesday’s House Financial Services Committee hearing with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Waters chairs the Democrats on the committee and loves using her position to create viral moments attacking Trump officials.
The California Congresswoman began her questioning by trying to paint Bessent as unresponsive to her office.
“This is the first time we’ve met, is that correct?” Waters asked, clearly setting up her planned attack about Bessent ignoring her correspondence.
That’s when all hell broke loose.
“No ma’am, we actually met one New Year’s Eve in the Bahamas,” Bessent replied.
Laughter immediately erupted throughout the hearing room as Waters’ carefully planned ambush backfired spectacularly.
Waters struggled to maintain her composure, trying to laugh it off.
“You didn’t make an impression? Why don’t I remember that?” she said.
Bessent wasn’t finished. He twisted the knife with a jaw-dropping detail that left Waters shell-shocked.
“You were much better at the Electric Slide than I was,” Bessent said, referencing the popular dance that was a wedding reception staple in the 1990s.
The Treasury Secretary explained the connection that Waters conveniently “forgot.”
Waters has frequently visited the Bahamas over the years. Her husband, Sidney Williams, served as ambassador to the tropical island nation under the Clinton Administration from 1994 to 1998.
Bessent hammered his point home.
“I was with the Prime Minister of the Bahamas yesterday, Prime Minister Davis, who sends his regards,” Bessent added.
Waters was clearly rattled by the shocking revelation about their past connection.
The California Democrat tried desperately to regain control of the exchange.
“I didn’t remember that, but that’s odd, because you’ve been at Treasury and I sent you five letters to ask about what was going on under your leadership, and only received a couple of cursory replies from your staff. Why didn’t you respond?” she demanded.
Bessent calmly explained his office works to address all congressional inquiries they receive.

Democrat meltdowns take over serious hearing
Waters wasn’t the only Democrat who turned the serious hearing into political theater.
Ohio Democrat Joyce Beatty hijacked her questioning time to rant about the Harriet Tubman $20 bill project launched under Obama.
“In 2016, former Secretary Jack Lew announced that Harriet Tubman was to be the new face of the $20 bill. Can you tell me what’s the current status of this project?” Beatty demanded.
When Bessent offered to have his staff follow up with details, Beatty went into full meltdown mode.
“No, I want you to get back to me because, see, there seems to be an issue when it comes to things that affect people of color or people who live in poverty, whether it is what you’re doing with social security, what you are doing with restricting funds—” she ranted.
Committee Chairman Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) had to repeatedly bang his gavel to shut down Beatty’s tirade as her time expired.

The hearing was supposed to focus on international financial systems, but Waters and her leftist colleagues once again showed they’re more interested in scoring cheap political points than addressing actual economic issues.
Bessent’s unexpected revelation exposed how Waters thinks she can rewrite history whenever it suits her political agenda.
