Marjorie Taylor Greene has become one of the most influential conservatives in Congress.

She’s not afraid to challenge the Republican establishment when they drift away from America First principles.

And Marjorie Taylor Greene left House leadership shell-shocked when she torpedoed this anti-Israel boycott bill.

House GOP leadership forced to pull controversial anti-boycott bill

House Republican leadership quietly scrapped a planned vote on a bipartisan bill that would have criminalized anti-Israel boycotts after several prominent conservative lawmakers, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, mounted fierce opposition to the legislation.

The International Governmental Organization (IGO) Anti-Boycott Act, sponsored by Republican New York Rep. Mike Lawler and Democratic New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer, would have prohibited Americans from supporting boycotts imposed by global entities against U.S. allies, including Israel.

The bill was originally scheduled for floor consideration on Monday before conservative backlash forced leadership to retreat.

Conservatives rally to defend the First Amendment

Greene led the charge against the legislation, arguing that it represented a clear violation of Americans’ constitutional rights.

“It is my job to defend American’s [sic] rights to buy or boycott whomever they choose without the government harshly fining them or imprisoning them,” Greene posted on X Sunday afternoon.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) joined the fight to protect free speech rights.

“Americans have the right to boycott, and penalizing this risks free speech,” Luna wrote on X. “I reject and vehemently condemn antisemitism but I cannot violate the first amendment.”

Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie also came out strongly against the legislation.

“It was a ridiculous bill that our leadership should have never scheduled for a vote,” Massie wrote on X Sunday after the bill was pulled from consideration.

Lawler defends his controversial legislation

Rep. Lawler attempted to defend his bill in a series of posts on X, arguing that the United States should not tolerate certain international entities’ boycotts against allied countries, including Israel.

He even took a personal shot at Greene for her opposition.

“Who knew you were such a fan of defending the UN,” Lawler wrote on X in response to Greene’s criticism.

Lawler’s bill would have amended the Anti-Boycott Act of 2018 to expand its authority to also prevent Americans or U.S. businesses from participating in boycotts organized by international entities — including the United Nations and European Union.

President Donald Trump had signed the original 2018 legislation into law during his first term as part of the fiscal year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act.

Greene pushes for America First priorities

Beyond killing the anti-boycott bill, Greene also criticized House GOP leadership for not focusing on passing President Trump’s executive orders.

Greene’s Gulf of America Act of 2025, which would codify President Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico, is expected to receive a vote later this week, according to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.

The America First agenda continues to gain momentum in Congress, with conservatives like Greene, Luna, and Massie fighting to protect constitutional rights while pushing for the Trump administration’s priorities.

This battle over the anti-boycott legislation highlights the ongoing tension between traditional Republican foreign policy and the new wave of America First lawmakers who prioritize constitutional rights and U.S. interests above all else.
