New York Attorney General Letitia James loves lecturing everyone else about following the law.
She’s made a career out of telling Americans that "no one is above the law."
And Letitia James just got hit with one citation that shows her true character.
James gets busted for illegal fence while under federal investigation
The woman who’s spent years going after Donald Trump just got caught breaking the rules at her own Brooklyn brownstone.
The Department of Buildings slapped James with a summons on July 23 for having an illegal fence in front of her Clinton Hill home – and get this – it came after at least three anonymous complaints from fed-up neighbors.¹
The fence measures 5 feet, 6 inches high, which exceeds the 4-foot limit in the historic district where she lives.
James faces up to $500 in fines when she appears before an administrative law judge on October 8, unless she cuts down her fence by September 26.
But here’s where it gets really interesting.
This same Brooklyn property is already at the center of a federal mortgage fraud investigation.
The Department of Justice has been looking into allegations that James falsified records to get favorable loan terms on both this Clinton Hill brownstone and another property she co-owns in Virginia.²
James purchased the 120-year-old home in 2001, and records show she’s also late on paying a measly $13 annual property registration fee to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
Talk about attention to detail from someone who demands everyone else follow every jot and tittle of the law.
The irony gets thicker
City Councilman Robert Holden, a moderate Queens Democrat, didn’t mince words about James’s predicament.
"If the DOB summons and mortgage questions are accurate, Attorney General Letitia James should bring the fence into compliance, pay any penalties, and be fully transparent, because no one is above the law," Holden said.³
Sound familiar? That’s the exact phrase James has used repeatedly in her crusade against Trump.
New Yorkers are "tired of double standards," Holden added, noting that all public officials must follow the rules like any other homeowner.
Some neighbors claimed they didn’t even know James was breaking any rules, with one long-time resident insisting James inherited the fence when she bought the property.
The same neighbor pointed out that at least one other house on the block has a tall fence that hasn’t been ticketed.
But that misses the point entirely.
Look, here’s what this really reveals about James
You want to know what this fence business tells us about Letitia James? It shows the same arrogant mindset that’s driven her entire political career.
This is a woman who’s built her reputation on prosecuting people for technical violations while apparently ignoring basic city regulations at her own front door.
The federal mortgage fraud investigation makes this even more telling. James is accused of falsely claiming properties to get better loan terms – exactly the kind of financial shenanigans that would land regular Americans in serious legal trouble.
And now we find out she can’t even be bothered to pay a $13 annual property fee or keep her fence within legal limits.
Here’s the part that should make you furious – James has dismissed the fraud allegations as "baseless" and claims they’re just retaliation for her legal battles with Trump.
But that’s exactly what every defendant says when they get caught. The difference is, James has spent years refusing to accept that defense from anyone else.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. While James continues her lawfare campaign against the President, she’s getting a taste of her own medicine with federal investigators breathing down her neck and city bureaucrats writing her tickets.
New Yorkers who’ve watched James weaponize her office for political purposes are finally seeing some accountability.
If you’re going to make "no one is above the law" your signature catchphrase, you better make damn sure you’re following all the laws yourself – right down to fence heights and property registration fees.
The woman who’s made a career out of finding technical violations to prosecute her political enemies just got caught in her own web of rules and regulations.
And the best part? She’s got to stand before a judge just like everyone else she’s put through the legal wringer.
