Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem didn’t mince words when she appeared on Fox News Channel’s Hannity to discuss the escalating violence in Los Angeles.
The city has descended into chaos as anti-ICE protesters clash with law enforcement while President Trump’s administration conducts immigration raids targeting dangerous criminals.
Noem delivered a scathing assessment of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom’s leadership during the crisis.
"Gavin Newsom has done absolutely nothing, Mayor Bass has done absolutely nothing," Noem told host Sean Hannity.
The DHS Secretary didn’t stop there.
She called Bass "a train wreck of a mayor" who has been "endorsing" criminal activities and allowing LA "to be completely devastated with crime."
Noem explained that federal agents were targeting 400 to 500 known gang members who have been "victimizing people for years" while local Democrat leaders looked the other way.
"Today, we had over 400 to 500 targets we were going after that were known members of gangs in L.A. that have been victimizing people for years, that Gavin Newsom has done absolutely nothing about, that Mayor Bass has done absolutely nothing about," Noem told Hannity.
Bass tries to spin the violence as "peaceful protest"
Mayor Bass held press conferences trying to frame the violent riots as legitimate demonstrations.
She claimed that protesters "have the right to peacefully protest" and insisted Los Angeles is "a city of immigrants."
That’s when Noem delivered the knockout punch that left Bass scrambling for cover.
"Well, they’re not a city of immigrants – they are a city of criminals, because she has protected them for so many years," Noem declared.
The truth hit Bass like a freight train.
For years, Bass and other California Democrats have implemented sanctuary city policies that protect criminal illegal aliens from deportation.
They’ve prioritized the rights of foreign criminals over the safety of American citizens.
Now those policies have come home to roost as violent rioters torch cars and attack law enforcement officers in the streets of Los Angeles.
Trump sends reinforcements to restore order
President Trump isn’t sitting on the sidelines while Democrat politicians allow their cities to burn.
He deployed an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, bringing the total to 4,000 according to Governor Newsom.
The Pentagon also sent about 700 Marines to protect federal buildings and officials from the violent mobs.
Trump argued the military deployment was necessary to address the violence as protesters clash with law enforcement during ramped-up Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
Of course, Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta sued the Trump administration over the National Guard deployment.
They called it an "unprecedented power grab" because they’d rather see their state burn than admit Trump is right about securing the border.
Noem promises to hit back harder
The Homeland Security Secretary made it clear that the Trump administration won’t tolerate attacks on federal agents.
"And so, we’re coming in and doing what the president has said that he’s going to do and he’s going to allow people to live in a safe community again and we’re going to use the authority that he has as president of the United States to conduct these operations," Noem explained.
She warned the thugs rioting they would face serious consequences if the attacked law enforcement.
"The more that people" use violence against law enforcement, "Boy, we’re gonna hit them back and we’re gonna hit them back harder than we ever have before," Noem said.
This is exactly the kind of strong leadership Americans voted for when they elected Donald Trump.
For too long, Democrat mayors like Karen Bass have coddled criminals while law-abiding citizens suffer.
They’ve turned once-great American cities into lawless wastelands where foreign gangs operate with impunity.
But those days are over.
