The former Tonight Show host didn’t mince words when he called into The Tim Conway Jr. Show on Thursday to discuss the horrific assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk during a campus event in Utah.
"It’s not a random shooting. I mean, it’s the death of free speech to think that you are so illiterate and so stupid you can’t answer verbally if you have to shoot somebody with a gun to ‘win the argument,’" Leno stated.

The comedian, who graduated from Boston’s Emerson College in 1973, reminded everyone how political disagreements used to be handled in this country.
"You know what? When I was in school, lively debate was unbelievable," Leno explained. "They had the SDS, the Students for a Democratic Society debates."
Think about that for a second.
Leno was in college during the Vietnam War – arguably the most politically charged era since the Civil War – and students on opposite sides of the political spectrum still managed to have debates instead of resorting to violence.
Now we’ve got cowards shooting conservative speakers because they can’t handle hearing different viewpoints.
The Left’s War on Conservative Voices Just Got Real
Look, this isn’t some random act of violence we’re talking about here.
Charlie Kirk was gunned down at Utah Valley University while doing what he’s done hundreds of times before – engaging with college students and challenging their assumptions about politics and culture.
The guy built Turning Point USA from the ground up, creating a platform for conservative students who were being silenced and intimidated on campuses across America.
And for that, he paid with his life.
The timing here isn’t coincidental either.
Kirk’s assassination comes at a moment when the Left has been ramping up their attacks on conservative voices everywhere – from social media censorship to campus speech codes to outright violence at political events.
They tried to destroy Kirk through the usual channels first.
The media smeared him as an extremist.
Campus administrators tried to ban his events.
Leftist students screamed and threw tantrums to shut down his speaking engagements.
But Kirk kept showing up, kept making his arguments, and kept winning over young Americans with facts and logic instead of emotion and intimidation.
So they resorted to the ultimate silencing tactic – a bullet.
Even Hollywood Liberals Can’t Ignore What’s Happening
Here’s what makes Leno’s comments so devastating for the Left.
This isn’t some right-wing pundit or Republican politician making these observations.
This is a guy who’s been part of the entertainment establishment for decades, someone who’s hosted liberal celebrities and Democrat politicians on his show countless times.

The Left spent years normalizing political violence with their "resistance" rhetoric, their calls to "punch Nazis" (meaning anyone who disagrees with them), and their celebrations every time a conservative gets attacked.
Now they’re facing the consequences of the monster they created.
What Charlie Kirk’s Death Really Means
Charlie Kirk wasn’t just another conservative voice – he was the guy who figured out how to reach young Americans and pull them away from the Left’s indoctrination machine.
That made him more dangerous to the radical agenda than almost any politician or media figure.
Politicians come and go.
TV hosts get replaced.
But someone who could actually change how an entire generation thinks about politics and culture?
That’s an existential threat to everything the Left has been building for the past fifty years.
Kirk understood that the real battle wasn’t happening in Washington, D.C. or on cable news shows.
It was happening on college campuses, where impressionable young people were being taught to hate America, capitalism, and traditional values.
So he showed up to those campuses, armed with facts and logic, and started winning hearts and minds one student at a time.
The Left couldn’t allow that to continue.
They tried everything else first – protests, deplatforming, character assassination.
When none of that worked, they turned to the one tactic they had left.
Political assassination.
The Message They’re Sending
Make no mistake about what Charlie Kirk’s murder represents.
This isn’t just about one conservative activist getting killed.
This is about the Left sending a message to every conservative voice in America: step out of line, and this could happen to you.
What they’re really after is making sure other conservative speakers get the message loud and clear.
Show up on campus? This could happen to you.
Try to organize a political event as a young conservative? Better think twice.
Challenge the liberal professors who run these universities? You might not make it home.
The goal is simple – create enough fear so only their voices get heard.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk was domestic terrorism, pure and simple.
And the fact that Jay Leno – of all people – is the one calling it out shows just how far the Left has fallen.
When Hollywood liberals start sounding more reasonable than campus activists, you know the revolution has eaten its own.
The question now is whether the rest of America will wake up to what’s happening before it’s too late.
Because if shooting conservative speakers becomes the new normal, free speech won’t just be under attack.
It’ll be dead and buried.
