Hillary Clinton thinks Americans have short memories.
She just proved why so many people can’t stand politicians.
And Hillary Clinton looked like a fool after she made this awful demand.
Clinton suddenly becomes a free speech champion when it’s convenient
Hillary Clinton has spent years attacking free speech whenever it threatened her political agenda.
She called on European governments to force Elon Musk to censor American citizens on X.
Clinton shocked everyone by positioning herself as a defender of free speech after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was suspended from his show for falsely claiming Charlie Kirk’s assassin was a MAGA supporter.
During his night monologue, Kimmel accused President Trump’s supporters of "desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them."⁵
The problem is, Kimmel was lying.
Court documents later revealed that the killer, Tyler Robinson, had actually "become more political and had started to lean more to the left" and thought Kirk was "full of hate."⁶
Kimmel pushed false information to score political points off a man’s assassination, but Clinton rushed to defend him anyway.
"I think this is a very clear example of using the power of the state to suppress speech," Clinton declared with a straight face. "It is a direct government action to try to intimidate employers, organizations, corporations, much of which we’ve already seen, to remove an opponent, even though it’s a comic."¹
For anyone who’s been paying attention to Clinton’s anti-free speech crusade over the past few years, this statement was jaw-dropping.
Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley called Clinton’s newfound concern for free speech the height of hypocrisy.
"For many in the free speech community, the statement led us to spit out our morning coffee," Turley wrote.
Clinton’s sudden transformation into a First Amendment warrior would be laughable if it weren’t so transparently calculated.
The real Hillary Clinton has been waging war on free speech for years
Clinton’s track record on free speech reads like a authoritarian’s playbook.
After Elon Musk bought Twitter and promised to restore free speech protections, Clinton immediately called on European officials to crack down on American citizens using the Digital Services Act.²
That’s right – a former Democratic presidential nominee begged foreign governments to censor Americans because she couldn’t control the narrative anymore.
Clinton also praised the anti-free speech efforts in California and New York and demanded the rest of the country follow their lead in restricting speech.³
But the most telling moment came when Clinton accidentally said the quiet part out loud about why she really wants censorship.
"Whether it’s Facebook or Twitter or X or Instagram or TikTok, whatever they are, if they don’t moderate and monitor the content, we lose total control," Clinton admitted.⁴
There it is – the truth about Clinton’s anti-free speech agenda.
It’s not about protecting anyone from harm.
It’s about maintaining political control over what Americans can say and think.
Clinton’s excuse reveals her authoritarian mindset
Like every would-be censor, Clinton tries to justify her attacks on free speech by citing extreme examples that are already illegal.
"It’s not just the social and psychological effects it’s real harm, it’s child porn and threats of violence, things that are terribly dangerous," Clinton said.⁴
This is the classic authoritarian bait-and-switch.
Clinton demands sweeping censorship powers to stop "disinformation" but then justifies it by mentioning child pornography – which is already banned under federal law.
No one is arguing for legalizing child exploitation material or direct threats of violence.
But Clinton uses these extreme examples to justify censoring political speech she doesn’t like.
It’s the same playbook authoritarians have used throughout history – claim you need emergency powers to stop terrible crimes, then use those powers to silence political opponents.
Kimmel spread disinformation to push his political agenda
The timing of Clinton’s sudden conversion to free speech advocacy tells you everything you need to know about her motives.
For years, she’s been one of the loudest voices calling for government and corporate censorship of political opponents.
She celebrated when conservatives were banned from social media platforms.
She pushed for more aggressive content moderation to silence "disinformation" – which usually meant any facts that hurt Democrats politically.
But when Jimmy Kimmel gets suspended for literally spreading disinformation about a political assassination, Clinton discovers the importance of free speech.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr called Kimmel’s false claims "truly sick" and said the host was "directly misleading the American public about a significant fact" regarding "one of the most significant political events we’ve had in a long time."⁷
But the moment a liberal comedian faces consequences for joking about a political assassination, Clinton discovers the importance of free speech.
Where was Clinton’s concern for free speech when the government was pressuring social media companies to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story?
Where was her outrage when conservatives were being systematically banned from platforms for questioning COVID policies or election procedures?
Clinton was cheering from the sidelines because the censorship was targeting her political enemies.
Now that someone on her side is facing accountability for making light of a political murder, suddenly she’s worried about government overreach.
Look, here’s what this really shows – Clinton and her allies never cared about consistent principles or protecting everyone’s rights equally.
Look, Clinton and her allies have made their game plan crystal clear.
When conservatives get banned from social media for questioning government narratives? That’s "protecting democracy."
When a liberal host spreads lies about a political assassination? That’s a "free speech crisis."
It’s the kind of double standard that would make Soviet propagandists blush.
Voters figured out Clinton’s act years ago, which explains why her favorability numbers stay stuck in the basement.
Every time she opens her mouth on issues like this, she reminds people exactly why they rejected her message in the first place.
Clinton’s sudden concern for free speech has all the authenticity of a three-dollar bill – and about as much value to anyone paying attention.
The only surprise is that even some of her allies seem stunned by the brazenness of this latest act of political theater.
