The media liked to claim that Obama's Presidency was scandal-free.
It was worse than anyone imagined.
And FBI agents raided the home of a top Obama official for this scary reason.
High-ranking Obama DEA official caught conspiring with Mexican cartel
The FBI raided the home of Paul Campo, who served as Deputy Chief of the DEA's Office of Financial Operations under Barack Obama, on Friday morning.
Campo spent 25 years with the DEA before retiring in January 2016.
Now he's facing charges for conspiring to launder $12 million for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Campo and his associate Robert Sensi didn't just agree to launder money.
They discussed helping CJNG acquire AR-15 rifles, M4 carbines, M16 rifles, grenade launchers, and rocket-propelled grenades.
They also explored procuring commercial drones that the cartel planned to weaponize with explosives.
"What we do with the drones, we put explosives and we just send it over there, boom," an undercover source posing as a cartel member explained to Campo.¹
In another conversation, Sensi said the drones could carry approximately six kilograms of C-4 — enough to "blow up the whole f—."¹
Campo and Sensi laundered $750,000 by converting cash into cryptocurrency and provided payment for 220 kilograms of cocaine worth $5 million.¹
Former DEA official weaponized his expertise against America
Campo leveraged his quarter-century of law enforcement experience to help the cartel.
He advised operatives about fentanyl production and offered to provide sensitive DEA information about sources and ongoing investigations.
The man entrusted with protecting Americans from drug cartels was actively working to strengthen one of the deadliest criminal organizations in the Western Hemisphere.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton didn't mince words.
"By participating in this scheme, Campo betrayed the mission he was entrusted with pursuing for his 25-year career with the DEA," Clayton said.¹
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel has been responsible for countless deaths through violence and drug trafficking in both the United States and Mexico.
President Trump designated them as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in his second term.
Campo spent decades supposedly fighting organizations like CJNG, learning their tactics, understanding their vulnerabilities, and accessing sensitive intelligence.
Then he offered all that knowledge to help them evade law enforcement.
Robert Sensi served as Campo's connection to the criminal underworld, bragging in late 2024 that he had a friend who "used to be in charge of DEA's financial operations" who could assist the cartel.¹
This isn't the first time Obama's DOJ armed the cartels
Campo's arrest exposes a pattern that goes back to the beginning of the Obama administration.
Remember Operation Fast and Furious?
Obama's Department of Justice deliberately allowed more than 2,000 firearms to be illegally sold and trafficked into Mexico between 2009 and 2010.²
The ATF and DOJ claimed they wanted to track the weapons to arrest cartel leaders.
Instead, they armed some of Mexico's most ruthless criminal organizations.
Two Fast and Furious guns turned up at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.²
The weapons included hundreds of AK-47 rifles and 34 Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifles — enough firepower to arm an entire Marine regiment.³
Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over documents about the scandal.²
Obama invoked executive privilege to protect him.
Campo left the DEA in January 2016 — just as Obama's second term was winding down.
By late 2024, he was meeting with people he believed were cartel operatives, offering to launder millions and help them acquire military weapons.
The Obama administration didn't just allow guns to walk into cartel hands through incompetence.
They had officials at the highest levels who were willing to actively conspire with those same cartels.
Campo and Sensi were arrested Thursday in New York and face charges of narcoterrorism, terrorism, narcotics distribution, and money laundering.
The media spent eight years claiming Obama ran a scandal-free administration.
They lied.
The corruption went deeper than anyone knew — from Holder's DOJ deliberately arming cartels with thousands of weapons, to senior DEA officials conspiring to launder cartel money and provide them intelligence.
This is what the Deep State really looks like.
