Democrats want to put as many roadblocks as possible for the incoming Trump administration.
They’re hoping to derail a fast start to his second term with skullduggery.
And Donald Trump warned Senate Republicans to watch for this dirty trick from Democrats.
Donald Trump warns Senate Republicans about Democrats stalling cabinet nominations
The first major test that President-elect Donald Trump faces after returning to the White House is getting his cabinet nominees confirmed.
Senate Republicans have a 53-47 majority but there are enough establishment RINOs who could try to sink some nominations.
Trump’s Secret of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth is facing a well-coordinated campaign by the media and Washington, D.C. insiders to force him to withdraw.
His picks like Kash Patel for FBI director, Director of National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard, and Health and Human Service Secretary nominee Robert F. Kenndy, Jr. will likely face similar pushback.
Trump warned Senate Republicans not to fall for “tricks” by Democrats designed to stall the confirmation process.
“We just won a Historic Landslide and Mandate from the American People, but Senate Democrats are organizing to improperly stall and delay the confirmation process of many of our Great Nominees,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They will try all sorts of tricks starting very soon. Republicans must not allow them to do that. We have a Country to run, and many big problems to solve, mostly created by Democrats. REPUBLICANS, BE SMART AND TOUGH!!!”
Trump lost one cabinet nominee after former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) withdrew his nomination for Attorney General after a media firestorm.
Democrats will try to play stall ball on Trump’s nominees
Senate Democrats are in the minority but they have the opportunity to drag the confirmation process out.
The fate of Trump nominees like Hegseth, Gabbard, and Kennedy is going to come down to getting enough Senate RINOs to get to 50 votes.
During Trump’s first term in office, 12 of his cabinet nominees had hearings before he was inaugurated.
Nine cabinet picks were confirmed within one month of him taking office.
Democrats didn’t show up to a Senate Finance Committee hearing in 2017 which denied Republicans the quorum needed to advance the nominations of Department of Treasury Secretary nominee Steve Mnuchin and Secretary of Health and Human Services nominee Tom Price.
Both were eventually confirmed.
Some of Trump’s cabinet nominees in his first term weren’t confirmed until March and April.
This time he wants to be able to hit the ground running in his second term.
RINO former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) blasted Democrats for trying to hold up Trump’s cabinet picks in 2017.
“It is time to get over the fact that they lost the election . . . none of this is going to lead to a different outcome,” McConnell said at the time.
High-profile clashes with Trump nominees are a good way for Senate Democrats to get some face time on TV and work on building their political profiles.
Democrats have never made anything easy for Donald Trump and it likely won’t change in his second term.
