James Comey faces federal charges for lying to Congress
Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted on September 25, 2025, on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding.
The disgraced FBI Director maintains his innocence and is scheduled to be arraigned on October 9, 2025.
But this case represents something much bigger than just one corrupt bureaucrat getting his comeuppance.
Comey was at the center of the Russia hoax that consumed Trump’s first term and led to years of bogus investigations designed to take down the President.
The former FBI chief lied repeatedly to Congress about what he knew and when he knew it regarding the fabricated Russia collusion story.
Trump’s team isn’t treating this as an isolated case of perjury.
They see it as the opening salvo in exposing the entire deep state conspiracy that targeted Donald Trump from 2016 through the Mar-a-Lago raid in 2022.
Devin Nunes connects the dots on the deep state conspiracy
Former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes appeared on "Sunday Morning Futures" to discuss what Comey’s case really represents.
Nunes has been investigating this corruption longer than almost anyone and he’s now serving as chairman of Trump’s intelligence board.
The timing of his comments ahead of Comey’s arraignment wasn’t coincidental.
"Look, I’m expecting a full investigation," Nunes told host Maria Bartiromo. "If you look at the transparency that’s been brought by the intelligence agencies under Trump — unprecedented level of transparency, where we’re now finally getting out documents that the American people had never seen."
Nunes explained that investigators need to start with the Mar-a-Lago raid and work backwards to expose the full scope of the conspiracy.
"I think an investigation needs to kind of start there and go back, because we know for sure what happened in 2016 that Comey was well aware of is that this was all — the whole Russia Hoax — was designed to get Trump," Nunes stated.
The California Republican made clear this wasn’t just about Russian interference.
It was about covering up Hillary Clinton’s email scandal by framing Trump for collusion that never happened.
The conspiracy runs deeper than anyone imagined
When Bartiromo asked about whether this constituted a "grand conspiracy," Nunes didn’t mince words.
"Well, I think you just have to ask yourself the common-sense question is: Was it a conspiracy or not?" Nunes replied.
He pointed out the obvious pattern that Democrats and their media allies refuse to acknowledge.
"And clearly, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere, this has been a conspiracy to weaponize the U.S. intelligence agencies against the most popular Republican since Ronald Reagan — that is President Trump," Nunes explained.
The scope of this conspiracy is breathtaking when you connect all the dots.
Intelligence agencies worked hand-in-glove with fake news media outlets and left-wing nonprofits to benefit the Democrat Party.
They didn’t just spy on Trump’s campaign – they fabricated evidence, lied to courts, and then spent years covering their tracks.
"It was all designed to target and take down one of your political enemies, so much so that they actually raided his home — his private — a private home of a former president at that time," Nunes added.
Two key dates expose the entire cover-up operation
Nunes highlighted two critical dates that prove this was a coordinated conspiracy spanning multiple administrations.
The first was August 2016, when CIA Director John Brennan briefed Obama, Biden, Comey, and other officials that Hillary Clinton’s campaign was planning to frame Trump for Russian collusion.
"They knew that in August of ’16," Nunes stated. "Now, how is it possible that all of these cast of characters that were interviewed by multiple — not only the House Intelligence Committee, but also in the Senate and Horowitz and…all the way to Durham — they had amnesia, just forgot about this?"
These weren’t memory lapses – they were deliberate lies told under oath to Congress.
The second critical date was August 2022, almost exactly six years later, when the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago.
"Many of the same people were involved in that — not Comey, because he had been fired — but others who had been in the first Obama term, all the way through, were then put into the Biden term," Nunes explained.
Look at the people behind both operations and you’ll see the same names keep popping up.
The deep state operatives who cooked up the Russia hoax didn’t just disappear when Trump left office – they burrowed deeper into the bureaucracy and waited for their next chance.
Here’s why Democrats are scrambling for cover
Comey’s indictment has Democrats in full panic mode, and for good reason.
This isn’t just about one former FBI Director facing perjury charges – it’s about exposing a conspiracy that could reach into the highest levels of the previous administration.
Nunes dropped a bombshell when he revealed the level of transparency Trump is bringing to intelligence agencies.
"Those days are over, right? Now the president has made me the chair of his intelligence board. We are working to help declassify where we can all the information that you now are seeing come out," Nunes said.
For years, congressional Republicans demanded documents from intelligence agencies only to be stonewalled and lied to.
Now they have a President who’s willing to expose what really happened instead of covering it up.
The transparency under Trump is "unprecedented" according to Nunes, and it’s revealing corruption that goes to the very top of the previous administration.
Democrats who thought they were safe behind the statute of limitations may find themselves in legal jeopardy.
If prosecutors can prove this conspiracy continued all the way through the Mar-a-Lago raid in August 2022, then the clock hasn’t run out on prosecution for many of these officials.
Comey’s arraignment was just the opening act.
