Bernie Sanders has never been one to hold back his criticisms.
The self-described Socialist just unleashed a scathing evaluation of his party’s leadership.
And Democrats launched an aggressive new strategy after Bernie Sanders blindsided Kamala Harris with this brutal assessment.
Sanders throws Harris and Biden under the bus
The progressive wing of the Democrat Party isn’t hiding its frustration anymore. Senator Bernie Sanders recently delivered a shocking rebuke of both Kamala Harris and Joe Biden when asked about the future of Democratic leadership.
During an interview cited by ABC’s Jonathan Karl, Sanders expressed serious skepticism about Harris and Biden, stating that “the future of the Democratic Party is not going to rest with the kind of leadership that we’ve had.”
This bombshell assessment comes as Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have been drawing massive crowds on their “Fighting Oligarchy Tour,” energizing the far-left base of the Democratic Party while establishment Democrats struggle to find their footing.
The progressive movement appears to be gaining momentum even as mainstream Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) attempt to downplay internal divisions.
Jeffries unveils Democrats’ desperate counter-strategy
Appearing on This Week with Jonathan Karl, Jeffries revealed the Democrats’ new counter-strategy to rebuild their credibility with American voters.
“We’re going to continue to make clear that the cost of living in the United States of America is too high,” Jeffries declared. “Democrats have a different vision. We want to build an affordable economy for hardworking American taxpayers.”
Jeffries announced that Democrats will be having a “cost of living week of action” as they try to convince Americans they have solutions to economic problems.
“We recognize that housing costs are too high, grocery costs are too high, utility costs are too high, childcare costs are too high, insurance costs are too high. America is too expensive,” Jeffries admitted.
This remarkable acknowledgment comes after years of the Biden-Harris administration downplaying inflation concerns and economic hardships faced by everyday Americans.
Americans don’t trust Democrats on economic issues
When Karl confronted Jeffries with a Gallup poll showing only 30 percent of Americans have confidence in Democratic leaders like Chuck Schumer on the economy, Jeffries struggled to respond.
The poll placed Democratic leaders at the bottom of the list for economic confidence, below Donald Trump, Republican leaders, the Fed Chairman, and even the Speaker of the House.
Jeffries tried to counter with a reference to a Morning Consult poll claiming Congressional Democrats were “trusted more than Congressional Republicans on the economy for the first time in four years.”
But after experiencing record inflation and economic hardship during the Biden-Harris years, Americans appear skeptical of Democrats’ new economic messaging.
DNC leader targeting incumbent Democrats
Adding to the Democrats’ internal turmoil, Democratic National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg has launched a stunning initiative to challenge established Democrats in safe blue districts.
Hogg blasted many current Democratic lawmakers, saying, “We need a better Democratic Party and need to get rid of the Democrats in safe seats who do not understand what is at stake now, who are asleep at the wheel not meeting the moment, and are a liability now into the future of our party.”
When directly asked about this threat to his caucus members, Jeffries tried to downplay the significance, saying, “Primaries are a fact of life.”
But the tension was evident as Jeffries attempted to pivot away from discussing internal party challenges.
Democrats pivot to attacking Trump
While facing internal divisions and low confidence from voters, Jeffries pivoted to attacking President Donald Trump and Republicans.
“We’re in a crisis across the board, right? I mean, that is obvious for everyone to see,” Jeffries claimed. “This is not normal. The president is assaulting the economy, assaulting Social Security, assaulting healthcare, assaulting the American way of life, and assaulting our democracy.”
He further claimed that Republicans are “breaking the economy and will own all of the damage that is being done to the American people,” despite Trump having been in office for just a few months.
This pivot to aggressive rhetoric appears to be Democrats’ strategy to unite their fractured base, even as Sanders and AOC draw thousands to rallies with a very different message than establishment Democrats are comfortable with.
As the party tries to regroup before the 2026 Midterms, the question remains whether they can reconcile the growing divide between the progressive wing championed by Sanders and the establishment represented by leaders like Jeffries.
