Democrats are trying to settle on a strategy to oppose Donald Trump’s agenda.
They thought they found the winning ticket.
And a top Democrat was asked one question about Donald Trump that turned him into a stammering mess.
Senate Democrat grilled over his party’s latest anti-Trump talking point on NBC News
Democrats are scrambling to come up with a strategy to oppose President Donald Trump as his second term gets underway.
Trump’s agenda is wildly popular with the public.
Banning biological men from playing women’s sports, deporting illegal aliens who’ve committed violent crimes, securing the border, and eliminating government waste all have the support of at least 70% of the public in a new Harvard/Harris poll.
Democrats are trying to single out SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as their main line of attack.
They’ve argued that DOGE’s work to highlight wasteful government spending is a “constitutional crisis.”
Claiming everything executive action Trump takes is a constitutional crisis is the newest talking point for Democrats and their media allies.
U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) was pressed about this talking point during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Host Kristen Welker played a video of Democrats repeating “constitutional crisis” and asked if that was a winning message.
“Some of your colleagues have been saying that America is in a ‘constitutional crisis,’” Welker said. “Senator, as you know, Democrats just lost an election, largely with the closing argument accusing Trump of being a threat to the democracy. Is that the most effective messaging right now?”
“I think the most effective messaging is talking about the crisis that’s happening to Americans,” Booker replied.
Welker asked if he was talking about a constitutional crisis.
Democrats double down on a failed strategy
Booker refused to stay if there was a constitutional crisis but pointed to spending cuts that he claimed without evidence put the country in danger.
“Look, all this talk about USAID. I have visited people on the front line stopping infectious diseases from coming here. To have scientists in dangerous areas like Kampala suddenly not be able to get their access to their cell phone, their emails,” Booker claimed.
DOGE exposed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was being used as a slush fund to fund left-wing political priorities abroad.
The agency’s more than $50 billion budget was supposed to be going to foreign aid but it was paying for transgender surgeries in Guatemala and an Iraqi version of Sesame Street.
“And be cut off by a President and Elon Musk or in a ham-handed incompetent way, cutting funding that makes no sense and ultimately won’t make a difference on our deficit because the president wants to rack it up to give tax cuts to the wealthiest and create even bigger deficits in our country,” Booker stated.
Democrats are defending wasteful spending at USAID when foreign aid is the most unpopular part of the federal budget.
Calling Trump’s actions a constitutional crisis is the same failed playbook from the 2024 Election.
Democrats constantly attacked Trump for being a threat to democracy and a fascist.
That messaging fell flat with voters after former Vice President Kamala Harris suffered the worst loss for a Democrat candidate since the 1980s.
Going back to the well of fearmongering about Trump is a losing strategy for Democrats.
