The left spent 14 years turning the Boy Scouts into something your grandfather wouldn't recognize.
Pete Hegseth just walked into a room with Scouting America's leadership and gave them a choice.
What they agreed to kill – on the spot – is something every conservative dad in America needs to see.
The Citizenship in Society Merit Badge Hegseth Just Killed
The "Citizenship in Society" merit badge wasn't optional.
Every boy working toward Eagle Scout – America's most prestigious youth achievement – was required to complete it.
The badge forced scouts to affirm the benefits of DEI and participate in activism scenarios before they could advance.
Hegseth called it exactly what it was: the kind of thing that "always masks it under a name that sounds great but assumes something else."
That badge is now dead.
Scouting America confirmed it on their own website – scouts can no longer begin requirements, effective immediately.
Pentagon Gives Scouting America Six Months to Comply or Lose Military Support
Hegseth sat down with Scouting America's leadership and delivered an ultimatum: meet these conditions or lose Pentagon support entirely – no more access to military bases, no logistics for the National Jamboree, no preferential enlistment treatment for Eagle Scouts.
They folded.
Every trace of DEI comes out – scrubbed from programs, publications, and merit badge requirements across the board.
Membership is now based solely on biological sex at birth.
Applications list only male and female, and the designation must match the applicant's birth certificate. Biological boys and girls will not share tents, showers, or bathrooms.
Registration fees are now waived for children of active duty, Guard, and Reserve military families – something Hegseth said should have happened decades ago.
The DEI badge isn't just gone. It's being replaced. A new military service merit badge, developed in partnership with the War Department, takes its place – built to actually prepare boys to serve their country rather than lecture them about identity politics.
Hegseth was direct: "The onus is squarely on Scouting America to deliver." Six months, then the Pentagon decides whether they've followed through.
Ten Million Boys to One Million – What DEI Did to the Boy Scouts
The numbers tell the story.
In 1970, 10 million American boys were Boy Scouts.
Today, fewer than 1 million boys and girls combined participate – a 90% collapse that tracked perfectly with everything Hegseth described.
Starting in 2013, gay youth were admitted. By 2015, the blanket ban on gay adult leaders was dropped. In 2017, transgender students were welcomed.
Girls entered the flagship Boy Scout program in 2019. The DEI merit badge became mandatory for Eagle Scout rank.
Then came the name change – "Boy Scouts of America" became the gender-neutral "Scouting America" in 2024.
At each step, the organization's leadership told America these changes would save it.
At each step, membership fell further.
The organization filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and ultimately paid $2.4 billion to compensate more than 80,000 men who reported sexual abuse during their time in scouting.
Hegseth put it plainly: "Americans didn't want this."
Six Boy Scouts have been elected President of the United States. Eleven of the 12 men who walked on the moon were Boy Scouts.
Those men came up through an organization built to develop boys into leaders – not one that required DEI training before a kid could earn his highest rank.
Scouting America CEO Already Defying the Deal
This isn't a handshake agreement.
A uniformed Pentagon liaison will now maintain ongoing coordination with Scouting America – with a hard review in six months.
Fail it, and every Scout troop on a military base loses access, the National Jamboree loses Pentagon logistics support, and Eagle Scout enlistment incentives disappear.
"If we're unsatisfied with Scouting America's progress toward and commitment to the agreed upon reforms, we will find them in violation of the President's executive order and cease our support," Hegseth said.
Scouting America's CEO Roger Krone went straight to the Associated Press after the deal was announced and said transgender members would remain in the program regardless of what the memorandum of understanding says.
Hegseth handed them a six-month clock.
The CEO is already running out the time.
