Bill Clinton is an elder statesman in the Democrat Party.
He thought his party had his back.
But Bill Clinton was blindsided when Democrats committed this Epstein betrayal.
Democrats throw Clinton overboard for political cover
House Oversight Committee Republicans moved to hold Bill Clinton in contempt of Congress after he refused to appear for a scheduled deposition Tuesday about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Hillary Clinton defied her own Wednesday subpoena for testimony.
Chairman James Comer announced the committee will vote next week to hold both Clintons in contempt.
But here's what blindsided the Clintons.
Democrats on the committee aren't automatically circling the wagons to protect their party's former First Couple.
Several Democrat members told Axios they're open to voting Clinton into contempt.
That's not principle – it's a cynical political calculation.
Democrats are sacrificing Clinton to create the appearance they won't protect their own when it comes to Epstein.
"We want everyone to come in if they know something. They should come in. Including the president," U.S. Representative Maxwell Frost (D-FL) told Axios.
Translation: We're throwing Clinton under the bus so we can use Epstein as a weapon against Trump.
U.S. Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) said Democrats "don't care about your party" when it comes to Epstein.
The Clintons gave Democrats everything and got stabbed in the back
Bill Clinton spent 30 years building the modern Democrat Party.
Two White House victories after 12 years in the wilderness.
Moving the party to the center and making it electable again.
Hillary Clinton's service as Secretary of State, two Presidential runs, everything the party demanded.
And this is how Democrats repay loyalty.
By abandoning them the moment they become politically inconvenient.
When Republicans held Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt in 2024 for refusing to turn over Biden interview audio, Democrats voted in lockstep to protect him.
The Biden Justice Department declined to prosecute.
Now those same Democrats are signaling they'll vote to hold Clinton in contempt for doing the exact same thing.
The difference isn't principle – it's that Clinton is no longer politically useful while Epstein represents a potential weapon against Trump.
Democrats want Epstein investigation to target Trump, not Clinton
Representative Emily Randall (D-WA) admitted Comer appears to be "selectively enforcing subpoenas" but added "I don't think anyone should be able to avoid sharing information with the committee."
Democrats are already pivoting to attack Trump's Justice Department instead of defending Clinton.
They're suggesting the committee subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi about the Justice Department missing its December 19 deadline to release all Epstein documents.
That's the real game here.
Democrats want to turn Epstein into a Trump scandal, not a Clinton scandal.
They're willing to sacrifice the Clintons to create the appearance of bipartisan accountability so they can then demand Trump officials testify about Epstein.
The Justice Department released photographs in December showing Bill Clinton traveling internationally with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell from 2002 to 2003.
Clinton flew on Epstein's plane multiple times for Clinton Foundation trips.
Democrats know Clinton's Epstein connections are real and documented.
They're calculating it's better to throw Clinton overboard now and use that as leverage to go after Trump later.
Why do Democrats think this works?
Trump cut ties with Epstein before the sex crimes came to light.
Clinton kept flying on Epstein's plane for Clinton Foundation trips even after questions started surfacing about Epstein's activities.
But Democrats are betting the Epstein name alone damages Trump more than the actual facts damage Clinton.
That's how desperate they are to find anything that sticks to Trump.
"I don't think we should hold President Clinton and Hillary Clinton in contempt," Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) told Axios.
"The person we need to be holding in contempt is Pam Bondi."
There it is – the entire Democrat strategy in one quote.
Abandon Clinton, attack Trump's Attorney General, make Epstein about Trump instead of Democrats.
Clinton built the protection racket that's now abandoning him
The Clintons spent decades building a political machine designed to protect them from accountability.
Now Democrats are dismantling that protection because Clinton stopped being useful the moment he couldn't win them elections anymore.
The contempt measure will easily pass the Republican-controlled House if even a handful of Democrats break ranks.
Then it goes to Trump's Justice Department for prosecution.
Attorney General Bondi's department will enforce a contempt referral against Clinton – something Biden's DOJ never would have done.
Clinton built a 30-year protection racket and Democrats just burned it down to take one shot at Trump.
That's how disposable you are to the Left once you stop being useful.
After everything Clinton did for the Democrat Party, they're ready to send him to answer questions about Epstein under oath because they think it gives them political cover to attack Trump.
Democrats proved once again they have no loyalty to anyone except raw political power.
