The Chinese Communist Party has been waging a shadow war against American energy for years.
Most Americans had no idea how deep the corruption ran.
But Kansas AG Kris Kobach just exposed one Chinese scheme that has Pam Bondi ready for war.
Kansas AG sounds the alarm on Chinese "environmental lawfare"
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach isn’t buying the Left’s climate change hysteria for one simple reason – he knows who’s really pulling the strings.
Kobach fired off a letter to the Department of Justice demanding an investigation into what he calls an "environmental lawfare campaign" that’s been systematically targeting American energy companies.¹
The scheme is more sophisticated than anyone imagined.
China has been bankrolling environmental litigation in the United States through a San Francisco-based nonprofit called Energy Foundation China (EFC) that has deep ties to Beijing.
"Not surprisingly, the EFC appears to support actions that align with China’s strategic interest in boosting alternative energy production systems in which China controls crucial supply chains for necessary minerals, batteries, solar panels, and other energy technologies," Kobach wrote in his letter.²
Here’s the brilliant part of China’s strategy – they’re using America’s own court system to destroy our energy independence while making themselves the only alternative.
The nonprofit has "close ties" to the Chinese Communist Party and has been funneling tens of millions of dollars to environmental groups that turn around and file lawsuits against American companies.³
The real target isn’t the environment – it’s American dominance
Strip away all the climate change rhetoric and you’ll see what’s really happening here.
China wants to control the global energy supply chain, and they’re willing to play the long game to get there.
Take the lawsuits against Bayer over pesticide allegations – Energy Foundation China was the driving force behind those cases.⁴
Bayer has denied the claims but warned that continued litigation could force them out of the U.S. market entirely.
And who would fill that void? Chinese competitors, of course.
That’s not a coincidence – that’s the whole point.
State Armor, a nonprofit focused on national security, released a bombshell report last month exposing how this money flows from China into American environmental groups.
"As part of their strategy to control our energy grid and supply chains, they control non-profits and co-opt left-wing environmental groups to drive the CCP’s agenda through our own court systems and universities," State Armor CEO Michael Lucci explained.⁵
"It’s a classic CCP influence op with a healthy dose of CCP-style lawfare."
The report revealed that Energy Foundation China’s leadership includes current and former members of the Chinese government.⁶
So when these environmental groups file their next lawsuit against an American energy company, remember who’s really signing the checks.
Ted Cruz connects the dots in Senate hearing
Senator Ted Cruz saw this threat coming from miles away.
He held a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last month titled "Enter the Dragon—China and the Left’s Lawfare Against American Energy Dominance."⁷
Kobach testified at that hearing, laying out the full scope of China’s influence operation.
"Our energy sector is the engine of American prosperity, the lifeblood of our industrial power, our national security, and our geopolitical leverage," Cruz said during his opening statement.⁸
"If American energy is under attack, so is American security and American independence."
But Democrats on the committee tried to provide cover for China’s scheme.
Senator Pete Welch from Vermont pushed back during the hearing, asking how anyone could "distinguish between a person whose motivation is to be a left-wing Chinese sympathizer and people who just disagree with the fossil fuel industry."⁹
Welch argued that China and U.S. climate advocates might simply share goals that happen to overlap.
The problem with that logic becomes obvious when you follow the money – tens of millions flowing from Beijing into American courtrooms.
There’s nothing "well-intentioned" about a foreign adversary manipulating our legal system to destroy American companies.
Pam Bondi has the tools to fight back
The timing of Kobach’s letter couldn’t be better.
Attorney General Pam Bondi walked into the Department of Justice with decades of experience fighting corruption cases.
She knows how to follow money trails and she’s already signaled that foreign interference operations won’t get a free pass under her watch.
Bondi spent years as Florida’s Attorney General fighting corruption and she knows how to follow the money trail.
The evidence is already there – Energy Foundation China has been operating in plain sight, funneling Chinese government money to American environmental groups that turn around and attack our energy sector.
What we’re looking at here goes way beyond environmental regulations or climate policy debates.
A foreign government has been systematically funding lawsuits designed to cripple American companies and strengthen China’s economic position.
With Bondi now running the Justice Department, she has the resources to dig into these funding networks and trace exactly where the money originates.
Her track record as Florida’s Attorney General shows she knows how to build cases against complex financial schemes involving multiple parties.
For years, the Chinese Communist Party operated this scheme with environmental groups providing perfect cover.
Kobach’s investigation has documented the connections between Beijing and American courtrooms – connections that should worry anyone who cares about economic independence.
The evidence is already compiled and sitting on Bondi’s desk.
