Stephen Colbert’s years of anti-Trump obsession have finally caught up with him.

Reports of his show’s potential troubles have his supporters scrambling to defend their fallen hero.

And Piers Morgan delivered one brutal takedown that left Stephen Colbert defenders speechless.

Morgan mocks Colbert supporters’ weekend rally

Piers Morgan appeared on Fox News’ Outnumbered Tuesday and didn’t hold back when discussing Stephen Colbert’s situation at CBS.

Host Harris Faulkner noted that "only 20 people" showed up at a rally held in support of Colbert over the weekend.¹

She also showed a clip of Jay Leno suggesting that late-night comics shouldn’t present as political partisans before turning the floor over to Morgan.

The turnout spoke volumes about how disconnected Hollywood liberals have become from regular Americans who rejected their constant anti-Trump messaging.

Piers Morgan destroys Colbert’s entire career in one devastating segment

Piers Morgan appeared on Fox News’ Outnumbered Tuesday and delivered a masterclass in how to destroy a failed comedian’s legacy.

Host Harris Faulkner showed footage of the pathetic 20-person rally and a clip of Jay Leno suggesting that late-night comics shouldn’t present as political partisans before turning to Morgan for his analysis.

Morgan didn’t hold back with his brutal assessment of Colbert’s situation.

"I just think that’s the biggest audience Colbert’s had for ages, 20 people," Morgan said as his fellow panelists laughed.²

But Morgan was just getting started with his devastating critique.

He pointed out the financial burden that Colbert represented for CBS, claiming the show was costing the network $40 million per year while employing 200 staff members.

"His ratings were tanking, he was costing them $40 million a year, he had 200 staff," Morgan explained.³

The numbers raised questions about the show’s financial sustainability – high costs combined with declining ratings created a challenging situation for the network.

Morgan exposes the real reason behind late-night comedy’s collapse

Morgan didn’t stop at just criticizing Colbert – he delivered a broader indictment of the entire late-night comedy landscape that has alienated middle America.

"I’ve never read so much, or heard so much guff about a reason for a guy getting canceled," Morgan continued, questioning the explanations surrounding Colbert’s situation.⁴

"200 people! And all they do all day is prepare anti-Trump jokes," Morgan pointed out. "So whenever I watch Colbert – which was not a lot – whenever I did, endless sneering, mocking, Trump-bashing."⁵

The British broadcaster identified what he saw as a fatal flaw in Colbert’s approach and that of his fellow late-night hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver.

"It’s a one-trick pony. Trump-bashing, Trump-bashing, Trump-bashing," Morgan said.⁶

But here’s where Morgan delivered his most pointed criticism about the political climate.

"And what happened is, in the election, America went, ‘You know what? We quite like Trump. So we’re gonna vote him back in because we’re sick of you whiny liberals,’" Morgan explained.⁷

The former CNN host even admitted his own political evolution, acknowledging that he used to identify as a liberal but now has "nothing in common with the woke, left, liberal world at all."⁸

Morgan’s broader critique of late-night television

Morgan’s analysis extended beyond just Colbert to encompass what he sees as a broader problem in late-night entertainment.

He predicted that Colbert "won’t be the only one that goes" as audiences continue seeking different types of content.⁹

"Actually more people are now gravitating – modesty apart – to shows like mine on YouTube. We get millions and millions of views because people want to see uncensored, unfiltered comment," Morgan said.¹⁰

Morgan argued that audiences are seeking content that differs from traditional late-night comedy’s approach.

"They don’t want to see a one-trick, whiny pony telling everyone all the time the guy they voted for is terrible. They don’t agree!" Morgan concluded.¹¹

And he’s got the numbers to back it up.

While Colbert was drawing 20 supporters to a weekend rally, Morgan’s YouTube show pulls millions of views from Americans hungry for straight talk instead of sneering lectures about their political choices.

Twenty people. That’s all Hollywood could muster to defend one of their own.

The pathetic showing tells you everything about where these late-night comedians really stand with regular Americans who voted Trump back into office despite years of being told he was terrible.
