Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett appeared on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night where she discussed her recent viral moment from a Congressional hearing on transgender athletes.
During the hearing, Crockett had introduced a game she called “Trump or Trans” where she asked a witness to identify whether Trump or transgender people were responsible for various negative actions.
Colbert played a clip of the exchange, showing Crockett firing off a series of allegations, with the witness attributing each problem to Trump instead of transgender people.
“How did you, or when, or why, how did that idea come to you? The game Trump or trans?” Colbert asked.
Crockett’s response revealed Democrats’ deliberate strategy when messaging about the President.
“Well first of all I needed to keep it simple,” Crockett told Colbert. “Especially when I’m trying to send a message to him. Gotta keep it very simple.”
The audience erupted in laughter as Colbert grinned widely at the Congresswoman’s candid admission.

The Texas Democrat claimed her performance was meant to “redirect” attention to what she viewed as the real issues.
“I wanted to redirect and make sure that the American people knew that this was nothing but a distraction,” Crockett stated. “And sometimes coming up with something very plain, very simple, is probably the best way to go. So that’s why I did it.”
Democrats increasingly turning to stunts over substance
Crockett’s playbook appears to be part of a larger Democrat strategy to create viral moments rather than engage in substantive policy discussions.
During the “Trump or Trans” exchange at the hearing, Crockett fired off a litany of accusations against Trump, including “kidnapping Americans,” “driving us into a recession,” “increasing the cost of everything,” “harming farmers,” “ignoring the Constitution,” and “proposing to take away Social Security.”
The witness, who was clearly caught off-guard by the stunt, simply repeated “Trump” after each accusation.
Rather than engage in serious discussion about the legitimate concerns many Americans have about biological males competing in women’s sports, Crockett opted for a made-for-social-media moment that would play well with her base.
“Coming up with something very plain, very simple, is probably the best way to go,” Crockett admitted to Colbert.
This approach appears to stem from Democrats’ frustration with the current administration’s progress on implementing their agenda. With Donald Trump back in the White House and his popularity rising, Congressional Democrats are resorting to increasingly outlandish tactics to draw attention to their messaging.
