Border Czar Tom Homan is one of President Trump’s All Star appointments.
Homan knows what it takes to get the job done.
And Tom Homan just begged for one bold move that will fix the border forever.
Tom Homan says Congress can permanently solve the border crisis
Donald Trump showed the President possesses all the executive authority necessary to seal the border,
Illegal border crossings plunged to historic lows overnight once Trump took office and reinstated the immigration policies from his first term.
But what the executive does, another executive can undo.
The next Democrat President can eliminate Trump’s border policies with the stroke of a pen and instantly reopen the border, sending an engraved invitation for tens of millions more illegal aliens to march into America.
Border Czar Tom Homan is looking at what it will take to secure the border permanently after President Trump leaves office.
Homan told NewsNation Chris Cuomo that Congress could fix “85 percent” of the problems at the border with three simple pieces of legislation.
“I hope Congress could make some changes. They need to make changes, right? Because what concerns me is, every four years, a new president comes along, issue[s] brand-new executive orders to undo what the previous president did. I wish they’d settle this. Congress could fix three laws that would take 85% of the problem away from the border,” Homan began.
Currently there is a backlog of 2 million asylum claims, more than 90 percent of which are phony.
It takes four years to adjudicate these nonsense claims because of a shortage of immigration judges.
Congress could change the asylum thresholds and appropriate more money for immigration judges to cut down on the phony claims and speed up the process.
“When you come across the border, you make a claim to asylum, the threshold’s very low, on purpose, because they don’t want to send someone back to be persecuted [in] their homeland. But it’s too low. So, the cartels, they’ll teach them a few key phrases to say and claim and they pass that first interview, but then they get to court — if they go to court — the threshold, much, much higher,” Homan stated.
Second, Homan said Congress could pass legislation allowing the government to detain illegal aliens for longer periods of time and put a stop once and for all to catch and release.
“The second thing is the Flores Settlement Agreement” to allow the government to detain families for 40 days. And “If you’re really escaping fear and persecution in your homeland, you shouldn’t have a problem sitting in an open-air family residential center for 40 days and have the judge hear your case,” Homan continued.
And lastly, Homan said Congress needs to change the law to allow unaccompanied minors from countries other than Canada and Mexico to be immediately returned to their homeland once they cross the border.
Current policy is that unaccompanied children get sent to a relative in America.
This change would end the cartel’s child trafficking schemes.
“Finally, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, . . . the law says this, if you’re a child from Mexico and you come across the border by yourself and we ascertain, through investigation, that you’re not a victim of trafficking, you’re coming across to meet with a family member, whatever, you’re a victim of trafficking, you can be immediately removed to your homeland and back to your family. But if you’re from — and that’s for Mexico and Canada — but if you’re from any other country in the world, we can’t simply return you. You’ve got this multi-year process. So, . . . treat children all over the world the same as we treat children from Mexico,” Homan concluded.
President Trump secured the border from now until 2028.
Tom Homan is worried about what comes next.
